No Intel Management Engine in RIVE?

Yoshi__s

I have a new Rampage IV Extreme board with an Ivy Bridge-E processor (BIOS 4403).

In the BIOS main page it says:
ME version: N/A

Not available? What does it mean?

I downloaded the Intel Management Engine firmware 8.1.51.1471 and when I execute the MEInfoWin64.exe (just to know what version I have): I get the following errors:

Error 8193: Intel (R) ME Interface : Cannot locate ME device driver

Error 9459: Internal error (Could not determine FW features information)

How is it possible? My RIVE doesn't have Intel Management Engine? I don't understand...

How can I activate it?

Thank you very much.

Just a quick question what do you use the IME for?

And I just went to the Rampage IV Extreme support page and there is MEI under the chipset drivers

Version 9.0.0.1287

Description Intel(R) Management Engine Interface V9.0.0.1287 for Windows Vista/7/8 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)

Do you mean in BIOS you cannot see any version? Did you try to reflash BIOS, I am not sure if you'd need to try to update the IME BIOS on it's own?

Your post got me excited, is the full BIOS available through IME? I could do some overclocking/voltage adjustments/execute stability tests from workplace, and see if there's a BSOD on screen, reboot the system.. etc. 😄 Just need to figure out how to setup a remote connection to my LAN.

Looks like the same like ILO I've seen on HP servers.

Yes, I cannot see any Intel Managemet Engine version from the BIOS. It shows NOT AVAILABLE.

I flashed version 4403 when the MOBO arrived to my house 15 days ago, via USB Flashback. Because I had bought MOBO+CPU, and the CPU is an Ivy Bridge-E, which is supported only in version 4403 (there are no newer or older BIOS available for my processor).

I am going to reflash 4403 BIOS and I will tell you.

I downloaded the lastest 4403 BIOS: Rampage-IV-Extreme-ASUS-4403.CAP

I rename it to R4E.CAP and from the BIOS I execute EZ Flash 2 programme.

When I select the file to flash, it says: "Selected file is not a UEFI BIOS!"

What does it mean?

Is your USB stick FAT formatted?

I really put it in C:

I will try with a USB formatted in FAT and also from USB Flashback (but I don't think it works, if I understand what Praz is saying).

You have a second BIOS on that board. I hope you have left it as it came. If so change to BIOS 2.....copy BIOS to BIOS 1. Now start again, change to BIOS1 and reflash a newly downloaded version if the file. If NA appears in ME in BIOS your flash has not gone well....

No, I'm sorry, I have in BIOS2 the same that in BIOS1, I copied 4403 from 1 to 2 because the BIOS that came with the board wasn't compatible with my Ivy Bridge-E CPU, and I wanted to have both BIOS working because if the BIOS1 failed during an update or something like that, i wanted a working BIOS2.

EDIT: Same issue when booting from BIOS2.

You will manually need to flash the MEI region of BIOS or RMA the board.

Use FTK to flash the latest region from a backed up copy manually as you can't use standard updates if you've messed it up so bad the system doesn't see it.
