Noob confused here on win 7 install. Brand new build and was ready to install Win 7 pro to Samsung SSD. Windows asking where do I want to install windows. Its giving 2 options.... Disk 0 partition 1 100MB (System) and Disk 0 partition 2 238.gb (Primary). I am confused here as I have never seen this when installing Windows before. Am I just dumb or am I missing something here. I am to believe that I should just be seeing 1 disk with no partition....Please help clarify....Yes, again noob here..thanks

I was just confused in why there where partition to a brand new drive. I was expecting so see unallocated space and didn't. So I deleted and tried to proceed. Now Windows is stating "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057. Any help would be great. Thanks.

On a fresh (custom) installation of Windows 7, where Windows 7 is installed onto a new hard disk with unallocated disk space (no partition or volume been defined yet), or when user attempts to create a new partition out of empty drive, the Windows 7 installer will create an additional partition with the size of 100.00 MB, and mark as System Reserved.

The 100MB volume is labeled as System Reserved with NTFS file system, and System, Active, Primary partition attribute with no drive letter in Disk Management. The 100MB system reserved partition is only available for Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Business and Windows 7 Enterprise editions. The 100 MB system partition is used primarily as BitLocker partition for BitLocker encryption. Additionally, it also holds the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and boot files with boot manager for booting up the computer for troubleshooting when there is no Windows 7 installation DVD disc on hand.

so just go ahead and install in on Disk 0 partition 2 238.gb (Primary)

no go...tried to install windows to Disk 0 partition 2 238 gb (primary) as you had suggested....this sucks.

Try changing the sata cable, maybe update the firmware on the SSD? Since you are getting populated drives I can imagine you have AHCI set for that sata controller in bios?

Did you boot your install media in UEFI mode? If so your drive must be formated in GPT (not MBR).
Check this guide and specially the part: "Configure drive using an UEFI motherboard and GPT format:"

delete the existing partitions, create a new partition, and continue with the formatting. If that does not work, then please replace the SATA CABLE and try again.

i checked the guide that pamarac provided a link. Yes, very useful and I have a better understanding about UEFI...but that still not saying much to be honest. Its 3:40 am in the morning here in michigan. I think I am formating in MBR because I am booting from my non-UEFI device as indicated in the guide. Cleaned my drive via: diskpart. Went well. About to install and now I get a Yellow asterik where I select the Unallocated Space to iinstall windows. "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. Geez this is so heartbreakin....
