New Crosshair V Build

hemrie

Hello folks!

I'm new to the forum and I have a problem with my new Crosshair V build.

When I go to the bios the screen is distorted. It's oversized for the monitor and some parts are not readable.

I also get the 'Using PCIE gen2... Can't find any device' message when starting.

This all happened when I first started the machine. All I had attached was the video card, cpu, and SSD.

So I thought that a bios update would help. I updated to 1102 and still no difference.

Everything is great once I get past the bios.

All drivers are installed and up to date.

The AI Suite runs fine, I just can't get the darn bios distortion to go away.

I have googled and searched the forum but to no avail. The solutions I found either don't work or are confusing.

Anybody got any great ideas?

Hi hemrie,

Turn off your pc, take the power cable out of your PSU and reinstall your GPU to PCI-E slot (remember static electricity).
If that dont help try it in other PCI-E slot.

Have you stress tested your GPU yet?

Welcome to ROG forum!
Have a good day 🙂

Edit: oops thats PCI card? anyways try to reinstalling it on that slot 🙂

Personally I would try and swap out my video cable too when you have completed the very good suggestion from Mummy.

I will check back later to see how you are going on.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Ok, in the BIOS follow these few steps: Go to "Advanced" then "Onboard Devices" then disable "ASM1061 Storage Controller" this will fix the "device not detected" error that comes up, this problem is simply the ASMedia port trying to detect a device in it - ie a DVD drive etc. This will speed up your boot time also 🙂

As for the distortion, I am unsure of what that could be.

Wow! You guys reply fast!

To Myk SilentShadow:
Will do!!

To Mummy:
No I haven't stress tested the v8800 yet, what would be the best way to about it? I was trying to iron out all the tiny problems before I did anything.

To HiVizMan:
It's an hdmi cable. I 'don't think I have another, I'll have to order that today.

Thanks for all the fantastic suggestions. I will try them after I get off from work.!!!:o

I personaly use FurMark but im not sure what prog would be best to your GPU. Is it pro card for redering or something?

If you try FurMark. Then get a program (like ASUS Tweak) where you can see your GPU temps so you can stop it, if it wants to overheat it self..

Ok ...

The PCIE gen 2 warning/fix worked.
It doe not appear anymore

The bios fixes do not work.
I tried disconnecting the power cables, re-seating the card, connecting the power cables - no joy.
I tried moving it to the second x16 slot - no joy.
I tried moving the cable to the other hdmi out on the monitor - no joy.

to flearider:
The monitor is a LACIE 324 full HD 1080p used for gaming, photo adjusting, and DCC.

If anyone has any other ideas I'm listening. I going to try a few other things: Try another cable, get a dvi to mini-display adapter and try another connection to the monitor... who knows maybe one of those will work.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply flearider.
I was thinking same thing.

I think I am going to get a new displayport adapter. The one in place may be dying.

I ordered it and it should be here tomorrow (3/29/2012).

I have to get some work done tonight, so I'll post tomorrow if changing monitors or replacing the dongle/adapter helped.

Again, thanks for all the help everyone!!!:o:o:o
