New board only detects all memory in BIOS only?

I just got a new board for an RMA but when I install my memory in a 16GB Quad configuration DIMM slots A1-D2, the red slots it only show memory installed in the BIOS but when windows 8 64 bit boots I only have 8GB total instead of 16GBs. If I install memory only in the A1-B2 DIMM slots I will get post code 53 invalid memory or incompatible memory frequency.

If I install the memory in the DIMM slots C1- D2 I can get 12GB to show in windows using D2, D1, C1 DIMM slots. It seems there is a problem when running a Quad channel configuration. Is it possible the IMC on my CPU is bad and will only run in dual & triple channel now?

Back to more troubleshooting, the memory kit is brand new Corsair Dominator 2133MHz and all modules work.

Still no luck I have tried different BIOS, different memory frequencies.

Hey broken pixel 🙂

Well, glad you finally got a board......What happens if you put the RAM in the red slots in the recommended configuration A1 B1 D1 C1?

And make sure the RAM is seated properly with a good click at both ends...the RIVE is easily filled with RAM and the lever locks closed with the sticks still not seated correctly....

and what version of W8 do you have?

If I install the memory as the manual states with all the red slots populated during the post screen it say installed memory 8GB. The BIOS shows all dimm slots populated when using the dimm/gpu mapping.

When Windows 8 64bit boots it says I only have 8GB of memory installed. I check CPUz and it will say 16GB of RAM but the #5-#8 slots are empty. I have reseated the memory over and over it is securely installed within the slots.

It only took ASUS over a month to finally ship me a unused board after 1 DOA & the 2nd one gimped out with a dead PCIe slot #1. They even said they tested it. I'm sure they did somewhat because it came with the newest BIOS 4102.

I guess the only thing to do is RMA my CPU next.

Use one stick of ram and see which if any of the memory slots are defective.

Hmm.... any chance your cooling is displacing the CPU? Maybe a careful reseat of CPU and cooler

BIOS 4401! that's exclusive!

I meant 4102 BIOS. The slots left of the CPU do not work, A1, A2, B1, B2. If i populate those slots only red or black I get post code 53 when using RED DIMM slot (Memory initialization error) post code 65 when using the black DIMM slots. (CPU DXE initialization has started)

Its not the seating of CPU in the socket, there are no bent pins I checked when I received the board. The same thing happened with the 2nd gimp board I received. I thought it was just the memory, that is why I did an RMA on my 16GB kit. Two of the sticks were indeed bad because I tested all four of the sticks one at a time on a different motherboard. Two worked but the two closest to the area where there was smoke on my original board did not work.

Was it the exact same thing that happened previously, if so then yes it is looking like the CPU is the possible cause.

So my IMC on my CPU is only working half asses I assume.

Thanks for all the replies.

It is certainly what things are indicating as being the most likely cause.
