Network controller issue

The last couple of days I have been having some unstable connection. First I was about to contact my internet provider but then I noticed something. I went to device manager and by the ''other devices'' section it seems to have a problem with my network controller. This is exactly what it says:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I am definately gonna call my internet provider and ask them if they know anything about my problem, but I would really appreciate if anyone could help me find the driver needed, as it obviously may be the actual problem ;/ I haven't had the luck finding it, so please help me ;(

I am already having a lousy connection of 10mbit download, but when doing a test on it, it jumps from 1-2 mbit to 8mbit at the moment.

My motherboard is a Maximus v formula.

Odds are your ISP isn't going to have a clue what caused that. If you've ever heard the excuse the dog ate my homework, this looks like a case of Windows ate my driver.

You didn't list what OS you have, so just pick the proper one from the list and grab the networking drivers. Once you install them, it should resolve your issue, and if not, then we'll explore other ideas.

If you have another Lan card, maybe you can replace the card and try the test again!

I have tried to install the newest version of the LAN driver from the website, but it doesn't seem to solve my problem ;( Unfortunately I don't have another LAN card to test it out ;/

you said you installed the drivers: is the device still shown in the other devices section?

anyway:

in the device manager first try to uninstall that device, if that does not work then try to hit the delete key on that device ... if uninstall worked and you still see the device then try to hit the delete key on it ... then reboot windows

go to device manager and there you should see that device again (if not maybe in bios the ethernet controller is disabled, no clue though why) ... now try to install the drivers for that device by letting windows search in the directory where you unzipped the downloaded lan drivers file ... windows (at least windows 7) should find the correct driver automatically

that's what i'd do

After installing the drivers, it still shows under other devices, yes. I just did what you said, so I uninstalled the device and rebooted. As you said, it was showing again, still as it misses a driver. I tried to let it search for a driver in the folder where all my drivers are extracted, but it diddn't find any ;/

I have obviously browsed the internet to find a solution, and it seems I am not the only one who have had this problem. In a few cases, people want to know the hardware id's of the network controller? Does this help you anyhow? I rightclick network controller --> properties --> Details --> select ''hardware id's'' by property and this is what i get:

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4359&SUBSYS_850C1043&REV_00
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4359&SUBSYS_850C1043

which operating system do you have?

also, not sure if it matters but just in case, make sure you downloaded the driver package from the mainboard website of the mainboard you have ... there's 2 for the maximus v formula: one is maximus v formula and the other is maximus v formula thunder fx

i have windows 7 64 bit: when i open device manager and select a device and then right mouse click update driver software there should be 2 options:

1. search automatically ...
2. browse my computer for driver software

use 2. and then browse to the folder where you unpacked the lan driver package from the download page, click ok have include subfolders activated and then click next

this should be it ... either windows thinks you already have the latest driver (... is up to date) ... or it will install the driver found in that subfolder

after that it should show like this in the device manager:

Network adapters
Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection

if it still doesn't then either you are doing something wrong or something else is not ok ...

Doesn't matter what I do, it doesn't change. I got windows 7 64bit and maximus v formula thunderfx. I have downloaded the LAN driver from this website, by clicking the thunderfx version and it doesn't help. I guess the only thing I can do at the moment is to install a new copy of windows and hope for the best? ;(

Just a last stupid question before I install a new copy of windows. I am only downloading and installing the newest of the 2 LAN drivers available,
Version 17.3.0.0, I am hopefully not supposed to get both of them, since the other one is a older version?

I haven't updated my bios either, since I have read it can be risky business and you are not supposed to update it, unless you are experiencing some serious problems. Should I update it?
