Need some help with tuning my new CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 memory (16GB DDR-2133)

I just got my new memory and installed it and amazingly it booted into windows with all 4 sticks installed running at 2133MHz, all other settings were at the FX-8150's defaults (as far as the multipliers for CPU + NB + HT) using the DOCP settings for that memory. I thought it worked fine but when I decided to run a memtest86+ it failed about 75%of the way....I retested it at 1333MHz and all other settings at known good values and it did pass.

I am trying to learn as much as I can about overclocking but I am still a beginner. any help would be appreciated.

Tested settings:

CPU frequency: 3600MHz
Memory frequency: DDR3-2133 (1066MHz)
CPU NB frequency: 2600MHz
HT Link frequency: 2600MHz

CPU Voltage: 1.45V
CPU NB Voltage: 1.35V
Memory voltage: 1.5V

CPU Load Line Calibration: High
CPU/NB Load Line Calibration: High
CPU Voltage Over-Current Protection: 140%
CPU/NB Voltage Over-Current Protection: 130%

Memory specs:

16GB (4x 4GB) DOMINATOR GT DDR3 2133 9-11-10-27 1.5V

Set your memory voltage up to 1.6v . My G.Skill is rated for 1.5v, but I found that with all 4 slots filled it needed the extra voltage to be stable.

Don't up the voltage of your RAM if your not overclocking it, it will probably cause more instability. You have all 4 slots filled as I do as well. I found that upping the voltage on the NB (NOT CPU/NB) very little helped. I believe I am @ 1.15 from 1.1, or maybe it was 1.2. I restart double check and post back.

I just double checked, I have my NB set to 1.15v which makes sense when the stock is 1.1v so that would be the +.05v it needs the keep the voltage from sagging just a bit too low on the NB when the slots are full (I noticed auto doesn't do $#!* except set 1.1v regardless of 2 or 4 slots filled).

Can you let me know what type of temperatures your running with your system with a large FFT test in Prime95? Run version 2.6.6 as previous versions don't play nicely with bulldozer I noticed and can throw errors even if your system is setup right too. Also, don't bother with version 27 beta.

****so far ~15min into the test I only have 6 workers still active the others gave me "FATAL ERROR"
CPU case temp 60C die temp 45C DRAM Case temp 33C

.....as I was writing this another worker died.....

You can set the HTT back up to 2600 and leave the NB at 2200mhz. if your only overclocking using the multiplier your cpu/nb voltage is way too high. try 1.225 you should also manually set your fsb speed even if you arent using it for the over clock (200mhz).if you still getting problems like this, you probably need to up the cpu voltage try anywhere between 1.45-1.5 to start just to see if things are stable and be sure to check thermals using hwmonitor.

I am currently running Prime95 after a failure (cores dropped out due to HW failure acording to prime about 5 min into the te, then BSOD about 5 min later...the max temp I saw for the cores in overdrive was 43C and the CPU packege sensor on an AID64 recording was 55C , MB was 25C, RAM case temp was 30C, HT & NB were both running at 2600MHz .... at HT 1.250V CPU/NB:1.3125V CPU:1.4250V DRAM:1.5000V CPU current was 100-110A

right now the setting are: HT:2200MHz CPU/NB:2200MHz Memory: 1069.57 MHz at HT 1.270V CPU/NB:1.350V CPU:1.4250V DRAM:1.5000V

I just passed 3 hours of Prime with my mem clocked at 1866MHz with CPU case temp 60C Mem 32C I am going to try this time bringing the mem up to 2133 through FSB OC

*Prime95 up time has been ~30min with no HW failures running:

CPU frequency: 4250MHz (17x250MHz)
Memory frequency: DDR3-2000 9-9-9-24 (1003MHz)
CPU NB frequency: 2500MHz
HT Link frequency: 2500MHz

voltage set points:
CPU Voltage: 1.45V
CPU NB Voltage: 1.325V
Memory voltage: 1.5V
HT Voltage: 1.275V

Measured Voltages(with on board sensors (they are accurate to +/-0.007V on avg)
CPU Voltage: 1.409V
CPU NB Voltage: 1.356V
Memory voltage: 1.528V
HT Voltage: 1.290V

The temp is a little high for me though
CPU Case: 67C
CPU Die: 48C
Memory Case: 32C

** 1 hour and it is still passing all tests Ram temp has been between 32-35C and the CPU Case temp has been between 66C-69C Die temp 46C-50C

***2 hours and its still running well, and no changes in temp...I am saving my settings to a "stable OC profile" and test how much further I can push it.

don't feel bad about your temps. Mine are pretty terrible underwater. I built 2 of these bulldozers exactly the same, one runs really cool, one runs really hot. 😞

Just wanted to update that I was able to get my computer running at a much higher frequency with all 16GB of memory in place. The problem was the over current protection on the CPU....I feel comfortable disabling it as long as I have my laptop on my side watching temps, voltages, and CPU current

CPU frequency: 4785.83 MHz (265.88 * 18)
Memory frequency: DDR3-2120 9-11-10-27 (1060MHz)
CPU NB frequency: 2660MHz
HT Link frequency: 2660MHz

CPU Voltage: 1.4875V
CPU NB Voltage: 1.35V
Memory voltage: 1.5V
HT Voltage: 1.275V
