MVI Extreme PCIe Slot 3 B2 gets disabled

I just purchased another ASUS Radeon 7970 TOP edition card so I can configure Crossfire using another ASUS Radeon 7970 TOP. I placed 1 card in SLOT 1 & the other card in SLOT 3. Basically both cards take up nearly space on the board and I only have SLOT 6 free for my ASUS Xonar card. But when I put my Xonar card in that SLOT it disableds the SLOT 3 (B2). After reading through the manual this seems to be by design. But I was wondering if there is a way of getting the ASUS Xonar card working in SLOT 6 with both 7970 cards in CF or have i just wasted some cash?

PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_B2 slot will always be disabled when PCIe 3.0/2.0_x16_A2, PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_3 or PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_4 slots are used. This is a hardware design with no workaround.

unfortunately due the design, it's not possible as most motherboard these days have been designed mostly for 2-slot gfx.
I only think the x79 platform has some good option to choose from ?

Only thing I can come up with is that you use a PCIe extension cable, if you have a large chassi.
Or you may simply have to live with onboard audio.

Exactly what I had to do with my sound card by using an extension ribbon, works fine but the only problem I had was needing to use a low profile bracket because of the extra length created at the bottom of the sound card.

Couldn't he move the graphic card in b2 (slot 3) to slot 2 or 4 instead, and use the sound card in slot 4, 5 or 6? At the cost of a tiny few fps?

i got 3 cards in SLI - and I was planning on buying a Xonar Poebus and use it in slot 6.. Would that be a problem?

EDIT: oh.. it's a 3-slot card.. Dang.. 🙂

Would you mind posting a link to the extension you used or a photo cause i have the extreme as well and the Phoebus sound card as well and i thought of doing the same thing but couldn't picture in my head how it would all connect.

Top stuff guys. I just re-read the manual and it looks like SLOT 5 is not affected by this issue. As per t0bber & Dave6479 suggestions I'm going to get myself a riser cable.
