MVG don't boot. QCode 55 with G.Skill Trident X DDR3 (4x4GB) Model F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD

Hi Everybody.

Long time no post here, but I’ve been reading some of the threads lately.

Need your help, please. Well, my problem is that I ordered this kit of RAM, in order to upgrade my 8Gb Kingston HyperX, on newegg 2 weeks ago
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231596
, as matter of fact, a friend of mine who lives in the states (Sn Antonio, Tx) ordered and he sent me the kit via fedex to Mexico.

So I received yesterday and tried to install them with no success at all. Signs: Black Screen, fans running, Qcode 55 and can’t able to enter Bios.
I tried Clear Bios by pressing CMOS button located at the rear panel. Also I removed the Lithium cell CMOS power for about 90secs and put it back and turn the system on and the Qcode 55 is still appearing.

I decided to buy this kit because on TechPowerUP they tested on a ASUS Maximus V Extreme, here is the link
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/GSkill/F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD/5.html
and if you check the QVL of this MVE on www.asus.com do not appear this kit 16GB(4x4GB) Model F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD Only appears the one with 32GB (4x8GB), both has the same timings.

The QVL for the MVGene is the same as the MVExtreme, 47196

Theorically shouldnt work on none MoBo's (MVE or MVG). So the question is how do they did to work on MVE, if not listed in QVL?

The newegg specifications sheet say this:
“Features: Designed for 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors and Z77 platform
Intel XMP 1.3 ready
Removable top fin of the heat spreader
Includes G.SKILL Turbulence II memory fan
XMP ready for 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors”

So I bought it with those theorical facts, and assuming that QVL are not updated.

My Final Questions are:
What am I missing to do? Any ideas to make this kit run? Or this particular set of Ram is designed for 4th Generation Processors and Z87/Z97 Plataforms as the label says in the box?
47197

Could you guys guide me step by step, please. I appreciate your help. I would not like to get rid of this beautiful kit. Thanks in advance.

The Trident X kit should work in your maximus v gene and is on the G.Skill QVL list.

I am running the same kit with 2800MHz speed.

Try pressing the mem ok button.

Also try with just 1 stick installed in slot A1 to see if you can get it to boot.

Thank you nate152

I proceed exactly as you told me. But I install 1 module in A2(red) and boot was OK!
Then istalled another module in slot A4(red) and boot was OK!
After i got two modules installed 8gb, proceed to intall the other 2 modules In the A1 and A3 (black ones) slots.
When I get the 4 slots populate 16gb is When shows Qcode 55 NO BOOT

So I uninstall the last 2 modules (black slots, A3 &A4) And i get a Boot OK!

Now i have 2 options:
a) One of the Black slots, A3 or A4 are damaged or
b) One of the two left sticks of ram are damged.

I Proceed to Unistall the ram that were in A2 & A4 (red slots) and replaced with the the other 2 (possible damaged) and i dont get a Boot, so I said....Ahahaha!

I Installed just One module 4gb to see which one was damaged. And no Boot.
I Installed the other one and the boot was Ok!

The damaged module installed in all 4 slots and boot failed.
I installed the 3 good modules 12 gb and boot is present. Ok!

RESUME.
Ram No xxxxxxxx2715 qcode 55 (deffective o damaged)
Ram No xxxxxxxx2716 ok!
Ram No xxxxxxxx2717 ok!
Ram No xxxxxxxx2718 ok!

It looks like one of your ram sticks is defective.

Good job on finding the problem, it seems you will have to do an RMA on your ram.

Hello Again.

After started the RMA process I decided to refund my money back and give it another chance to G. Skill buying now a 16GB (4x4) 2400Mhz CL10 (10-12-12-31) kit.
I've been trying to make it run the new kit at XMP profiles 1 and 2 with no success. The set only work at default setting which is 1600Mhz. If I set XMP profile my system fall into an infinite loop and cant boot to windows. Any ideas? or what should do for work it to the specific Speed an CL.

Appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Is this a Trident X kit?

Try setting it manually

In the bios hit F5 to set defaults, set the ai overclock tuner to manual and set the Dram frequency to 2400MHz, scroll down and set the Dram voltage to 1.65v.

Then go to Dram timing control and enter the first 4 timings of your kit

10
12
12
31
command rate 2

F10 and enter to save and exit.

See how she goes now.

Hi nate152

The kit is trident X.

I follow your instructions as you mentioned BUT the result was No boot. I get the same bad result...Infinite loop.

Clear the cmos, if this doesn't help....

Try booting with just 1 stick of ram installed.

If you are able to boot go into the bios on the extreme tweaker tab and raise the vccsa voltage to 1.10v , F10 and enter to save and exit. Shut down your pc and install the other 3 sticks.

How does it go now?

Before you post your last reply i've been doing some tests.
I cleared de CMOS and made the kit run at these frecuency and timings:
@1600 default with strange timings 11-11-11-24
@1800 manual 9-9-9-24
@1866 manual 9-9-9-24
@2000 manual 9-10-10-28
@2133 manual 9-11-11-31
@2200 manual 9-11-11-31

All of them with CRate 2

All of them have passed pi32 with OC CPU @ 4.2Ghz( From 8min 09secs---@1600mhz to 7min 58secs---@2200mhz)
Sisoftware Sandra 2014 with OC CPU @ 4.2Ghz latency memory also has improved from 24.3ns @1600 Mhz to 18.4ns @ 2200Mhz

I Believe that i have to play for a while with the frecuency @2400 until i get a Boot And then find a safe timmings in order to play games safely with no crashes.

That is what i remember i have my Notes at home, right now i am out of home.

I will do your last recommendation as soon as i came back home. I will keep inform.

Thanks.

P.S. I noticed When i clear CMOS and return to BIOS there are all my profiles. Is there any form to eliminate them all. Because i doing like pressing F5 on each 8 profiles and the set values to specific profile and then save by pressing F10

I'm not sure you can delete the saved profiles.

You can either overwrite them or do a bios flash to delete them.

Let me know if you are able to get your ram at 2400MHz with my suggestions above. Set your timings as they are rated to 10 - 12 - 12 - 31 command rate 2.
