The ASUS instructions are vague at best so here are clear instructions.

1. While you have a NON Devil's Canyon Processor installed, Upgrade the Management Engine Software to Version V9.5.15.1730 located under the CHIPSET Drivers (do it twice to make sure all the bits are upgraded).

2. Go to Programs and Features in your control panel and make sure you verify that ME 1730 is installed.

3. Reboot

4. Download the MAXIMUS VI FORMULA BIOS 1505 and BIOS updater located under the BIOS drivers and unzip the package to a directory on your hard drive.

5. Go to that directory and drill down to the directory called V2.00.02

6. Double-click on the UPDATE executable and follow the instructions completely (choose and install 1505 BIOS).

7. Reboot

8. The computer will post that you have to press "F1" to enter the BIOS.

9. Press "F5" for Optimized Defaults then "F10" to save settings and Reboot.

10. In Windows Verify that you have 1505 BIOS installed then shutdown your computer.

11. Install your Devil's Canyon Chip

12. Boot and Enter the BIOS and Press "F5" for Optimized Defaults then "F10" to save settings and Reboot.

13. Boot your computer... Success !

14. Now you can proceed to overclock to your heart's content.

Cheers

Can someone tell me if the management interface version should change when updating the bios, I have just updated mine to 1603 from 1103 using usb flash and the IMI version has stayed at 9.0.2.1345, the version listed in programs is 9.5.15.1730

Hi all. I have searched and searched but cannot find a satisfactory anwser to my exact query so apologies in advance if this is tiresome/covered somewhere I haven't found.

I have an i5 4690K and a Maximus VI Gene which from the sticker shipped with BIOS 1301

Both are new and still in boxes to be opened on Christmas Day by someone 🙂

Will I be able to install the 4690K on the board with 1301 and boot and install Windows? Obviously I will update the BIOS asap.

I also have a Celeron G1820 available, so if needs must I can build with this and update the BIOS before installing the 4690K, but if I don't have to do that (build will have an H100i) then great.

Many thanks in advance.

I followed the steps and it worked until step 12. When it started to reboot it turned off after a second. The cpu fan and case fans are on. Is it a mobo issue? This build is about a year old.

it would restart like two to three times, mine normally does that when i change some bios settings

hi just some advise on updating your bios to accept DC

head over to the asus support page and download bios 1504 (must be flashed with this first)
format your usb stick to its default settings
rename the bios file to M6E
only put that on the flash
insert it to the ROG Connect usb port
your board needs power (meaning the leds etc needs to be on,but pc is switched off)
hold the ROG connect button (the one that looks like a chain) for few seconds then till it starts flashing then let go
you will see on the motherboard a flashing orange led by the bios chip flashing, leave it till it stops flashing
once done power up your PC with you DC cpu

So I am running 1505 BIOS and have my new 4790K running smoothly.

Can I update to 1603 now? Is there a reason to? Am I forever stuck at 1505 now?

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone confirm whether its possible to update to BIOS 1603 once you have your 4790K working well?
