The ASUS instructions are vague at best so here are clear instructions.

1. While you have a NON Devil's Canyon Processor installed, Upgrade the Management Engine Software to Version V9.5.15.1730 located under the CHIPSET Drivers (do it twice to make sure all the bits are upgraded).

2. Go to Programs and Features in your control panel and make sure you verify that ME 1730 is installed.

3. Reboot

4. Download the MAXIMUS VI FORMULA BIOS 1505 and BIOS updater located under the BIOS drivers and unzip the package to a directory on your hard drive.

5. Go to that directory and drill down to the directory called V2.00.02

6. Double-click on the UPDATE executable and follow the instructions completely (choose and install 1505 BIOS).

7. Reboot

8. The computer will post that you have to press "F1" to enter the BIOS.

9. Press "F5" for Optimized Defaults then "F10" to save settings and Reboot.

10. In Windows Verify that you have 1505 BIOS installed then shutdown your computer.

11. Install your Devil's Canyon Chip

12. Boot and Enter the BIOS and Press "F5" for Optimized Defaults then "F10" to save settings and Reboot.

13. Boot your computer... Success !

14. Now you can proceed to overclock to your heart's content.

Cheers

Edit: See post #60 in this thread (linked below) for updating without a CPU using USB BIOS Flashback

There is a tab inside your BIOS that shows the version you are using. Yes, you can redo the update through the Ez Flash utility within the same BIOS.

That tab shows 1505, IMEI 9.0.30.1482, CPU 4790k.
Is i worth to update again to make sure everything works ok, I have OC my system to 4.6Ghz 1.25v and it's seems stable.

Nope. If your system is stable, don't bother touching the BIOS.

Thank you for your reply.
My last question:

After every format I install ONLY this drivers, in the following order:

1- Intel Chipset
2- IMEI
3- Intel USB3
4- Intel LAN
5- Audio driver
6- nVidia driver

that's all, nothing else from ASUS, do you think this is enough and do you think the order is ok, or it doesn't matter??

I see there is bios version 1603 available now. I'm going to pick up a 4790k to replace my 4770k. So I'll be upgrading using this guide. Thanks!

I don't agree with you guys. I fried my 4670K and bought this board and a 4690K. It wasn't updated for Devils Canyon yet so I used a USB drive with the new BIOS files on it and used the ROG port and button to upgrade from the USB. From what it sounds like you guys are saying, I shouldn't have been able to do that but, it worked out perfectly.

Hello

Flashing the UEFI as you did works fine if the ME block had already been updated because of a previous UEFI flash. However, as easy as the proper flashing method is it makes no sense not to follow the instructions as stated in this post at the risk of rendering the board unusable with the newer processors.

Praz,

I've read this entire thread in hopes of finding an answer to my questions without success.

I have a M6E with i7-4770K and the BIOS currently reads:

BIOS Version: 1402 X64
Build Date: 01/28/2014
iROG1 Version: RGEC-Z87-0283
iROG2 Version: RGE2-Z87-0256
ME Version: 9.0.30.1482
South Bridge Stepping: 05/C2

My questions are:

1. MUST I remove the CPU before doing the update as described in Post 60?

2. Since I already have ME Version 9.0.30.1482 can I just do a USB Update to 1603?

I have an i7-4790K inbound, but it hasn't arrived yet and I'd like to be ready but continue with the 4770K until it arrives.
