Most compatible Linux distro for Asus Maximus VI Extreme & 4770K?

I usually dual boot my rigs with Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit and Linux Mint 64-Bit but this time around Linux Mint 15 has been a real headache to get up and running. Gives me a moment of pause to consider another distro for this rig.

My experiences so far with Mint 15:

- Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon - Installs but no sound and many very non-Mint like annoyances. Looks like they rushed to release this version without as much testing as usual. Maybe a long road ahead to get it running smoothly.

- Linux Mint 15 Debian Version - Installs but doesn't recognize any of the hardware and doesn't look like its worth the hassle to debug.

Also, in general, although I like Mint for its traditional desktop, I do not like the clean install requirement every time the new version comes out especially since new revs roll out every six months.

Just curious to know what Linux distros everyone else is using and what their experiences were getting them up and running (full hardware recognized and working) on the Asus Maximus VI Extreme w/4770K...

Update: Fedora 19 does not boot. The live CD freezes during boot when trying to start the desktop... trying some more distros...

Anyone actually running any distro of linux with the M6E?

Update: CentOS 6.4 installer runs and completes. Upon reboot system hangs with a lovely black screen. On to the next distro...

Is there anyone besides me who is trying to run any linux distro with the M6E?

I can see this is a hot topic 😄

Update: Ubuntu 13.04 installer hangs at "Configuring bcmwl-kernel-source" ...

Looks like I may fscked for Linux on this rig 😞 There's nothing particularly unusual about my build either. 4770K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, GTX 690.... Everything is working fine on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit so I am not keen on switching around any hardware just to get Linux up and running.

Sucks but I guess its going to be a Windows only box. Hope this time I wasted testing helps someone avoid doing the same.

If anyone did get a distro up and running properly on the M6E, do let me know.

Have you tried OpenSuse? it's a pretty good distro, but I have no idea if it'll work on your M6E though.

Thanks Myk. Tried to download it but apparently there aren't any fast mirrors near my country. I am going to hold off on doing any more testing for the moment. Hopefully someone on ROG has a distro up and running (besides buggy Mint 15) on a M6E and can share what they did to get it up and running.

Do a Torrent download of it, that's how I got my hands on 12.3 earlier this year...Mirrors suck 😛

Mirrors do suck badly when you're not on gigabit fiber... I can download DVD ISOs in just a couple of minutes for most distros.

I'll have a go at using the torrent though. Seems there are no local mirrors for Suse so no choice 🙂

Dude, that's ridiculous! I'm so jealous! I have 1.5 Mbps down...:( Downloading ISOs can take almsot forever.
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!
