Mic issues - Still no fix?

A perfectly working microphone sounds really low and with a lot of noise on a clean win 7 64 bit install using the latest drivers provided by Asus for the Maximus VI Hero (Realtek_Audio_Win7-8_8-1_VER6017023)

Nothing has been overlooked (volume levels, boosts, noise canceling...)

No known software settings alter this behavior (many tricks out there, none work).

Uninstalling drivers and using windows generic does not solve the issue.

Drivers seem bugged as they don't overwrite some windows settings (view youtube link below)

You can find many posts online where people seem to be confusing the error with the typical problems of a muted mic, boost not enabled, etc... and end up concluding that the problem is in the mic itself. Well, it's not. My mic works fine on my laptop and on my wife's desktop.

All this fuzz about such a great Audio device on-board and the drivers are the messiest thing I've seen in years, hard to believe this is actually shipped like this. Also something tells me devs themselves have issues as I noticed in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=mLc_hGbqOt4

So what's the deal here? Disable in bios and install old Sound Blaster?

Update...

So far it looks like I have the my MIC issue fixed on my Impact. I have more testing to do but it appears the USB 3 drivers for the board were causing the issue. Two different headsets tested

Sennheiser PC 350 (separate audio and mic connections). Audio and Mic work.
Turtle Beach X22 (Audio and USB connection). Audio worked but Mic was not detected in Windows.

I re-installed Windows, fully updated, and left the USB 3.0 and the realtek drivers out. X22 mic is detected and works flawless. Before re-installing Windows I removed the realtek drivers and the Mic was still undetected.

Going to make an image of the system then install the realtek drivers first to see if it changes anything. if not then I will install the USB 3.0 drivers to confirm it is them causing it.

Locutis, this is a different kind of problem than OP's one.
The main problem seems to be low volume on mic.
Yours seems to be that the mic is NOT detected at all?

I know Deep. Originally the issue seemed the same as the rest in here. Originally the Mic's were detected but nothing coming out except static when I boosted them but after messing with it some and seeing they weren't detected anymore, I went to a clean install of Windows. Figure my results might help someone else.

Was about to start a new thread asking about this but after searching the forum I was sorry to find out lots of people are having the same problem...the mic volume is extremely low even when set to both max volume and max boost. Having these sliders at MAX I can hardly hear myself using normal volume on my speakers.

I have my headset mic connected to the rear mic input on my Maximus Formula VI motherboard. I have tried the headset with another external sound card and then the volume is just fine. My headset is a Sennheiser PC-151 Gaming.

I also found many other threads similar to this one so without reading through all of them is there any way to fix this issue or do I need to buy an external sound card to be able to use my headset mic?

Did you try the front mic port and/or speaker port?

I have this problem with my Maximus V Gene. Is there still no fix for it yet?

I mean it can't be right can it? For high end motherboards like the ROG series not getting a driver fix for something like this?

And i also have the occasional audio stutter/mute problem and still no fix for that either.. (but that's a different issue I know - just wanted to mention it)

Nope no fix microphone audio is low as hell. Boosting sounds like complete trash when at 20-30 to be audible. Truly believe this is hardware issue in the way the audio was designed. There has to be no amp or something for the microphone. It's just like the high end Xonar cards as well, they have a shielding over the audio portion but not the microphone portion so it picks up hissing and electric flow from the computer. This is why USB microphones sound the cleanest.

Hi guys,

I am running an ROG Ranger VII with RealTek drivers 7326 (latest as of now provided by Asus)

I have the same issues, very low microphone volume, and boosting gain gives a massive amount of hiss and static. it is unusable.

This is not acceptable, I am unable to use the hardware that I have paid for.
The integrated sound card capabilities of this motherboard were a primary reason for my purchase.

Im having this issue right now. I thought it was an issue with my headset I was using the siberia with an mic aux input and it was very low. It wasn't till I used a microphone with a usb input and that sounded fine. Now 2 days ago I got a perfectly fine microphone (modmic 4.0) with aux input and it sounds like trash. The volume is extremly low and I have spent hours fixing my drivers and audio settings but nothing f***** works. What the hell asus this is why I stop buying garbage gamer brands like yours.

Same issue, however, when I first plugged it in, it worked fine. I quit an application that was using the mic, and it went to the super low volume issue and has never come back. This makes me think it's definitely a software/driver-based issue and not a hardware one.
