Maximus VII Ranger - 00 Q-Code after Windows boots

PilotGW

Hi everyone!

Got my Maximus VII Ranger and 4690K on Sunday and put it all together. At first everything was fine, but since updating the BIOS to 1104, I get an intermittent 00 Q-Code when Windows boots. Everything seems to work fine, but it technically shouldn't if it's showing that code.

Any ideas?

GTX 780 DC2
8GB Corsair Vengeance LP RAM 1333MHz
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
Seagate 2TB and 500GB

Windows 7 Pro

Many thanks!

Hello PilotGW

Yeah normally you can't boot when code 00 is being displayed. Try flashing to a different bios version.

It seems to be stable. My quick overclock was fine on an overnight stress test. But the issue persists even with default BIOS settings. One thing that has been happening is my keyboard sometimes fails to initialize on boot. Not sure if it's related. I'm guessing not.

I will try another BIOS. Is it okay to revert to an older BIOS seeing as I already have the latest one?

Many thanks!

Sure is, and let us know if reverting to an older bios fixed your problems.

Okay, I rolled back to an earlier BIOS and it didn't fix the issue. After further testing I'm convinced it has something to do with my fans.

If I set fan Xpert to "standard" and boot up, just before the Q-Code switches from A0 to 00 as Windows starts up, my CPU fan revs up ever so slightly and then slows down again.

If I set Fan Xpert to "full speed" and boot with fans at full speed I get A0, until I set it back to "standard" and it switches immediately to 00.

I've now disabled CPU fan "extreme quiet mode" and was able to boot to A0 with fans at "standard," and I can switch between fan profiles without issue.

It's still early days but I think I'm on to something. I'll test more tomorrow. For reference, my CPU cooler is a Dark Rock Pro 2.

Well, It looks like you found what is causing code 00. Yeah do some more testing and let us know what you come up with.

If your pc still functions normally after it changes to 00, I don't think it is nothing to worry about although I do like my mobo to always show AO.;)

I have the same thing, just updated my bios yesterday and if i load the full speed profile in fan xpert and restart i get the 40 code, which i understand is normal for win 8.1. As soon as i get into any other profile (standard, silent, etc) i immediately get the 00 code. PC is working just fine, just curious about the 00 code and if i have to worry.

Hi, I was about to create a post but I think my problem is the same, I recently bought the Maximus VII Formula (first time with RoG series), I tested and everything is fine boot with A0 and the system are stable but when I put the silent profile in Fan Xpert 3 sometimes the cpu fan stop completely, I was thinking this was normal, passed all night in Away Mode what active silent profile and no problem, the temp was 50 C (I live in Brazil, here is hot) and when she rises the fan spin again (something like corsair's psu fan), but the Q-Code change from A0 to 00 when this happen (because MOBO think have something wrong with cpu fan?), the "CPU Fan Extreme Quiet" was On, so I want to know is normal to cpu fan stop? sorry for my english.

Just sharing the same thing on an Asus z97 Deluxe. CPU Fan Extreme Quiet makes the pc throw the 00 QCode after boot (and after a spike in fan speeds and then they return to normal).
Is this okay? Can a technical support person from Asus answer?
