Maximus VII Hero Update to Win10 - Realtek Audio Drivers Not Working

I have a Maxius VII Hero Mother Board. Uses Realtek audio onboard.
I upgraded to Win10 and the audio does not work.
It was working partially. I believe I went to some sites and heard audio.
I then tried to play an older game and noticed no sound. Then I noticed no sound anywhere.
I tried a new game, no sound. I went into settings and Mange Audio Devices and de-selected Realtek HD Audio.
Tried the game again, no sound. I reselected it as default, then the sound came on and worked for that game.
I bailed out of the game and went to a website, no sound on youtube.
Then I spent hour looking online what other had to say about similar issues.
I tried installing, re-installing the driver, re-booting, etc, - no success.
I did notice one interesting thing. In Device Manager, the date and version of the driver was 6/17/2014 and 6.0.1.7272. Which is puzzling since Win10 says that is the latest. If I go to the ASUS Reltek area and download the driver that says it is 7/8/15 and 6.0.1.7525 and install it, the Device Manager still says 6/17/2014 and 6.0.1.7272. This is crazy. Did it not change? Then I tried to uninstall the driver from Device Manager. It displayed the Device Driver info for the Realtek device blank. I then re-booted, went to look what was in device manager, and now it says 7/8/15 and 6.0.1.7525.
Also, in the event window for Device Manager, it shows the following

58398

notice there is a line that says device not migrated. I have not been able to get clear info on this. Somebody says that that is ok as long as there is a line that follows that says device installed. Bad or OK?

Anyway, I see that there are a lot of people having noise issues after upgrading to Win10. Looks like I have a more basic problem.

Anybody have any ideas of any exact things I should try?

May I suggest you download the latest audio drivers from here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO/HelpDesk_Download/
Be sure to use the newest file, check the date.

Afterwards download the latest stable Realtek drivers here http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/5993-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version.html
User comments can be helpful to determine the best one. Usually any WHQL driver will be okay.

Good idea to uninstall your older drivers first. Although the installers usually will automatically do this anyway.

download the drivers from the asus site listed above, unzip/unpack it and go into the nohotfix folder then run asussetup in there. They are aware of the no sound issue and have a hotfix with their current drivers.

I just wanted to give an update. Things seems to be working now. No audio issues. Things are back to where they were with Win7 but now on Win10.

It turned out, I stumbled upon needing to so something to make them work. I noticed that instead of just doing another install of a new driver from
device manager, I needed to first "uninstall" the current driver first and then do a new install. I noticed that when I did the uninstall, the date and rev
changed to be the values of the new driver I was trying to install. So, I continued and did another install and everything seemed to be "synced up".
So it looks like the install process was not deleting (either fully or partially) the old existing driver.

I recently had a lot of issues with Realtek myself and I think the method I followed would probably work for any ASUS motherboard owners having issues with Realtek audio drivers on Windows 10.

1. Remove the Realtek installation with Revo Uninstaller and remove all traces of it with the advanced option it gives you.
2. Use Driver Fusion. Go to the driver family section -> sound, select Realtek and choose the delete option at the bottom to remove all Realtek residual driver files.
3. Go here: http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/5993-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version.html
4. Get the latest driver from the windows update catalog as mentioned in the above link. It should be in a .cab format. Make sure to download the driver according to your system architecture i.e. x86 or x64.
5. DO NOT install it using the .cab installation method. Instead just extract the cab file to a folder.
6. Go to Device Manager and select your audio device, which should now be "High Definition Audio" instead of "Realtek High Definition Audio"
7. Right click it and Select "update driver software."
8. Select the "Browse my computer for software" option and point it to the folder where you extract the .cab file earlier.
9. It will install the audio driver and all audio should now work perfectly.
10. Profit???
