Maximus VII Hero South Bridge Heatsink LED switching on and off...Cause?

Hi all

Trying to diagnose exactly what the following behaviour means;

1. PC randomly shuts down when under graphics load
a. Have replaced video card with a lower power requirement but behaviour still occurs.

b. PSU tests ok at this point.

c. Overall I believe the power loading is very low on this board.

2. When the shutdown occurs, PC won't restart immediately and the LED on the heat-sink on the south bridge keeps switching off & on.
a. Eventually the PC will restart with a significant delay between using the start button and the restart itself.

b. This behaviour is also intermittently seen from a "first of the day" cold start.

The board and the components are not over-clocked in any way.

Suspect a board component is failing and an RMA is justified.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi, Make sure you tested the PSU under load. Just voltage reading won't help you much. If you have access to another PSU, test with it.

Thanks nickba - will be getting another psu to test against.
