Maximus VII Hero QCode 55

Hi guys.

I searched here and on internet about the code 55 issue. I discovered that the first two RAM slots(the ones closest to the CPU) are "not working".

I've got 4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz. If I put a RAM bank into those slots, the MOBO goes in error 55. I tried swapping RAMs/slots, always the same result.

But if I put a RAM bank into the other slots, the PC boots up.

Now, I wasn't able to check the BIOS because I was at my friend's house and I didn't take my keyboard. It may be a BIOS version-related issue? I've also read that sometimes the standoff of the CPU cooling system could generate this kind of issue.

Can you guys help me?

You have to insert the non clip side first and get the notch down into the socket and then lower the latch side making sure that it completely seats in the slot.

Tried that, always bootloops...

I looked on the Kingston site and the hyper x fury ram is compatible with z97 motherboards so it should work. The only things that can cause code 55 is your cpu cooler is too tight, your ram is not fully seated or you have some bent socket pins again.

I can't think of anything else that would cause code 55 with compatible ram.

Try with one stick and test each slot.

If you cannot get it to boot, I'm wondering if you might need a new cpu.

I am thoroughly convinced that his ram is not fully seated in the slot. Installing ram into a single latch socket is not the same as with a dual latch socket and many people make the mistake of not inserting the unlatched side below the notch before attempting to lower the latched side resulting in an unseated dimm. With a single sided latch you have to press down harder than ever before to seat them fully.
