Maximus VII Hero QCode 55

Hi guys.

I searched here and on internet about the code 55 issue. I discovered that the first two RAM slots(the ones closest to the CPU) are "not working".

I've got 4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz. If I put a RAM bank into those slots, the MOBO goes in error 55. I tried swapping RAMs/slots, always the same result.

But if I put a RAM bank into the other slots, the PC boots up.

Now, I wasn't able to check the BIOS because I was at my friend's house and I didn't take my keyboard. It may be a BIOS version-related issue? I've also read that sometimes the standoff of the CPU cooling system could generate this kind of issue.

Can you guys help me?

A boot loop is better than code 55. 🙂

Try clearing the cmos,

Iif this doesn't help let it keep boot looping. It will either eventually go to the bios with an overclocking failed message or end up with a code on the motherboard.

If this doesn't help, follow this guide on updating the bios.

I updated the BIOS with the EZUpdate from ASUS, the BIOS is now 2601. Later I'll try to clear the CMOS while it's bootlooping.

Cleared the CMOS, now 55! 😞

If the RAM isn't in the QVL, will the PC boot or not?

If your motherboard is not on Kinston's QVL list it is possible your pc won't boot, although I have seen people here using the hyper x beast ram without issues.

Inspect the cpu socket again for any bent or misaligned pins or try a different ram kit.

If the Ram is not on the QVL List it can do all kinds of issues.

Still say jiggle the ram as its booting or stuck @ QR-55. Not enough to damage but enough where the ram wiggles slightly. Most likely its Not the cooler to tight as long as you tighten where you get some slight feedback you're good. Not suppose to tighten it fully as is. Pull the CMOS battery and wait 15 minutes and try again if resetting cmos doesn't. Not much else I can honestly think of at this point. Sense i've played with my 2 G.Skill Ares ram I haven't had a single boot issue in a week.

Guys, I tried to put only two RAMs into the red slots, 55. Tried to put only one RAM into the first red slot, the one next to the CPU, 55. Do you think I'll need to change RAM?

Did you press down and make sure that they're fully seated in the slot? I've made that mistake before because it doesn't have the same feel as the double latched slots.

I've tried many things, also reseated CPU/RAMs several times. Can be some sort of BIOS option in order to make these RAMs compatible?

Ok, now it's bootlooping again. If I clear the CMOS, it goes with the 55...

You have to insert the non clip side first and get the notch down into the socket and then lower the latch side making sure that it completely seats in the slot.
