Maximus VII Hero QCode 55

Hi guys.

I searched here and on internet about the code 55 issue. I discovered that the first two RAM slots(the ones closest to the CPU) are "not working".

I've got 4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz. If I put a RAM bank into those slots, the MOBO goes in error 55. I tried swapping RAMs/slots, always the same result.

But if I put a RAM bank into the other slots, the PC boots up.

Now, I wasn't able to check the BIOS because I was at my friend's house and I didn't take my keyboard. It may be a BIOS version-related issue? I've also read that sometimes the standoff of the CPU cooling system could generate this kind of issue.

Can you guys help me?

Specs:

i7-4770k boxed version
Maximus VII Hero
SSD HyperX 240GB
Asus nVidia GTX970
4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz

OK

How many does it look like are bent? If there are only 2 or 3 bent ones you can try straightening them yourself but you must have a good eye (which it seems you do) and a steady hand. You can straighten them with a small thin blade pocket knife or a rounded toothpick. You must be extremely careful not to bend any of the other pins in the process.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it you could ask a pc shop or a jeweler to do it for you.

Just did with a toothpick. I've one question before re-assembling the whole thing: the thing that locks the CPU in it's kinda hard to go down and lock the CPU in the socket. I thought it was much smooth, but it's very hard to close. May be it the cause of bent pins?

If so, how can I loose it?

You can't loosen it.

Just make sure the cpu is correctly in the socket and close it and latch it. Nothing you can do about it, it's just the way it is.

Nothing, always 55 code error on the first two RAM banks.

Maybe you didn't get them exactly straight. You will have to check them again and make sure they are evenly spaced.

I just found that a pin was completely out of position, it came out of the socket. Now what?

If it came out.. its game over. You would need to A) Replace the socket yourself B) RMA and pay like $150 to repair the damages.

Ram is supposed to be in both RED slots A2/B2 slots
Lian Li 011 Dynamic White Case
Intel Core i9 Coffee lake 9900K @ 5.1GHz
ASUS STRIX Z390-E LGA 1151
Corsair DDR4 Corsair Dominator 32GB (4x8GB) 3600MHz CAS 18
EVGA nVidia RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA 10GB
EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 PSU
1x 512GB SAMSUNG 860 PRO SSD
2x 500GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD
1x WD BLACK 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA Hard Drive (6.0Gb/s)

Amazon changed my MOBO, but still 55 code. Socket pins are all straight, evenly spaced. Tried RAM on both RED slots, but still 55.

Got lucky that Amazon took it back. As far as QR-55

See if you cant "jiggle" lightly a ram stick in A2-B2 Slots. My first VII Hero had bad Dim slots.

Also make sure your ram is on the QVL List for the motherboard.

Have you also tried flashing the bio's with flashback? If not try that. 2601 is out now... My issue with my first VII Hero i would be stick with QR-55 or QR-64.

Only way I got it to boot was to make sure the ram slots were fully seated and made contact. Whatever reason when I cold booted id get stuck with QR-55 unless I jiggled my ram in A2. I sent it back for an RMA.

I updated the BIOS with EZ-Update, got the last version. I tried putting all the RAMs in, but the PC goes in bootloop, like there was some sort of false contact. Do you think that the MOBO has some problems on the A1 and A2 banks?
