Maximus VII Hero QCode 55

Hi guys.

I searched here and on internet about the code 55 issue. I discovered that the first two RAM slots(the ones closest to the CPU) are "not working".

I've got 4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz. If I put a RAM bank into those slots, the MOBO goes in error 55. I tried swapping RAMs/slots, always the same result.

But if I put a RAM bank into the other slots, the PC boots up.

Now, I wasn't able to check the BIOS because I was at my friend's house and I didn't take my keyboard. It may be a BIOS version-related issue? I've also read that sometimes the standoff of the CPU cooling system could generate this kind of issue.

Can you guys help me?

Specs:

i7-4770k boxed version
Maximus VII Hero
SSD HyperX 240GB
Asus nVidia GTX970
4x4GB HyperX Fury Blue 1600MHz

Hello Pipodi and welcome

You are correct an over tightened cpu cooler can cause this problem you have. Bent cpu socket pins can also cause your problem.

First try loosening your cpu cooler a little and see if this helps, if no help remove your cooler and cpu and inspect the cpu socket with a magnifying glass in good light. Look close and carefully and make sure they are ALL evenly spaced. Take your time and look close and carefully.

If the pins all look good install the cpu and cooler, the cpu may just needed to be reseated.

Thanks for the reply!
However, if the sockets pins were bent, the PC will boot up as well? I don't think so, just because if I have only 2 banks on the B slots, the PC boots up!

By the way, I'll try in a few hours but I can't figure out how to loose the cooler, I've tried this yesterday but I didn't know how to loose it.

Usually with a problem such as this it's cpu/socket related but the motherboard could have gone faulty too. We'll see when Pipodi posts back if we got him fixed.

Fingers crossed !

Very possible.

Let's hope not. Diag on these things is mostly test time. 😞

Yes the pc can boot if just 1 or 2 pins are bent and can cause what you are experiencing.

What cpu cooler do you have?

I've got the boxed one, I didn't buy another cooler.

All right well that explains why you can't loosen it. Go ahead and remove the cooler and the cpu and inspect the socket. Check it in good light close and carefully with a magnifying glass. Take your time and make sure they are ALL evenly spaced.

If the pins all look good install the cpu and cooler again with new thermal compound.

I've maybe found some bent pins on the socket. How can I fix this? I saw them even with bare eyes, so it must be this.
