Maximus VII Hero + Astro A40 Headset?

Hey guys, newbie here 🙂

Finally decided to splash out on a new PC build the other day, I landed on the Maximus VII Hero with i7 4790k and Nvidia 970 GTX.

I've previously been using a pair of Astro A40 gaming headphones with mixamp which I had to buy an additional sound card for because my previous mobo has no optic slot. I also seem to remember it being a bit of a pain as it requires a sound card that supports Dolby Digital Live.

Anyway I've got everything set up but unfortunately no surround sound, i'm assuming that's because of the lack of DDL?

Unfortunately my sound card wont fit in the mobo as there is no slot for it.

I was hoping that a mobo of this level would be able to work my headphones 😞

Has anyone else on here ran into the same issue and might be able to help me out?

Most sound cards today are pcie x1, the hero vii has three of those slots.

ASUS Xonar D1 .. it doesn't fit. I've tried .. unless I'm being stupid XD

It seems to have fixed itself now anyway, no idea what I've done but sound is 100x better.

The card you have is for an older PCI slot and probably won't be able to make that work on the new mobo.
