Maximus VI Impact - Discussion Thread

Maximus VI Impact Overview

Over the past few years, ASUS have led the way for innovation on small form-factor motherboards. It was only a matter of time before the ROG team would take on a mini-ITX project and take things to a new level.

The ROG brand is synonymous with gaming and overclocking oriented feature sets. We wanted to make a mini-ITX motherboard that could be used as a fully-fledged gaming machine and provide an overclocking experience on-par with full sized ATX motherboards - without sacrificing desirable features. A tall order, because the mini-ITX form factor is limited to a lone full length PCIe slot, which any gamer will want to populate with a discrete GPU.

That means on-board audio has to be good, however, there’s a very limited amount of space on the PCB to implement the additional circuitry required to ensure high quality audio reproduction. The same goes for power delivery. Adequate current needs to be available, but limited PCB space means that the power delivery circuit will soon infringe on space required for other on-board components and leave little room for most aftermarket CPU coolers. That's without taking space for things like on-board WiFi, Bluetooth, mPCIE space and the number of fan headers into account - things that enthusiasts want or expect to find on a gaming or overclocking oriented motherboard. We needed to find ways around these constraints whilst meeting enthusiast requirements. After a lengthy development and tuning period, these challenges have been more than met. Take a gander at the Maximus VI Impact:

There's a lot more the picture above doesn't show. From compatibility with a slew of aftermarket CPU coolers with backplates to a comprehensive software suite including Gamefirst II, Sonic Radar, SSD Secure Erase and the ability to passthrough audio in standby mode. We're not going to delve into the ins and outs of all of those features today, but we are going to show you how well this little board can overclock a CPU:

We'll kick off with a 12 hour stress test pass (more to follow):

4.6GHz DDR3-2400 16GB (2x8GB) 12 hours of AIDA passed

The power delivery daughter-board is an 8+2 phase solution, capable of pushing Haswell processors to maximum frequency without being a bottleneck. 4.6GHz watercooled is pretty easy. Higher frequencies fully loaded are possible with adequate cooling, too.

ETA in North America is mid~late August. We'll update with more specifics soon 🙂

Anyone else have these voltages so high in hwmonitor? I'm wondering if it's just a glitch or real. Both IA and LLC/Offset are set to auto. They both seem to be double of what they should be.

Well my board was running good for about 4 months, and now I have the dreaded Code 00 error as of 2 weeks. It boots up if I'm lucky and clear CMOS. I have started to stop recommending this board and Asus products in general because this is the third Asus board that has failed on me over the years. I've spoken with tech support and they told me to contact the RMA department and it has been 3 days now with no reply. Not looking good.

Have you verified that the CPU works with other board? Have you tried reseating the CPU? Have you inspected your socket for miss aligned pins? Have you tried running with stock CPU cooler (many of the sudden Code 00 issues are caused by incorrect mounting pressures of the cooling systems)? Have you inspected and verified that all the power plugs and ram modules are fully inserted?

Were you running your CPU/iGPU/PCH with excessive voltages?

Everything is stock, no overclocking. I don't think my CPU is bad because if I can get it to boot, it gets into Windows and runs everything flawlessly, games software everything. I haven't changed any components in the computer it has been the same for the past 4 months. It started doing it a little while ago out of the blue. The only change I made was I upgraded to the latest BIOS (1102), but I have since tried to downgrade to the older BIOS and the problem is still there.

I have tried replacing the PSU, put in Crucial Sport ram instead of the Tactical I had in there, and I have taken it apart and reseated everything, The problem is still there. I am typing this on the computer I am talking about. It took about 30 mins of resetting CMOS and powering on and off to get it to boot.

I see that there's a new BIOS version for this mobo, did that fix anything?

How's the audio quality for you guys in both the rear I/O and the front panel I/O?

And right now, when I was to make a new win 8 installation, the drivers page of the Impact mobo has been removed! Why??

The support page is missing ATM.

Any other way to download software/drivers? I'm kinda stuck not having CDRW drive in my Impact build.

I have been using my impact for a month I powered it up yesterday and all I got was error code 00 ( not used)
I removed the CPU and tried it in a Gryphon and worked fine .
I cleared Cmos and tried the impact but same error code I removed the bios battery for 1/2 an hour same error code. I downloaded the latest bios for the impact web page and loaded it still error code 00 .
I changed out the memory from my gryphon still error code 00 I used the intel cpu cooler its running 16 gbs of Gskill and intel 4770K which I powered up in a asus H87 and it worked fine
any ideas?

Any bent pins? Are you using stock cpu cooler?
