Maximus VI Hero sound problem

Hi,

Two weeks ago i bought my Hero board and i like it very much, but i have an issue with it. Sometimes when i install software, and i only get this when installing something (games,apps), i get a weird buzz in my speakers for a few seconds. The computer isn't hanging from what i can tell, but the buzzing is there. Like a bad interference. What could it be ?

I have noise gate and noise reduction disabled. Mic volume on 100%.
I have tried all possible permutations of settings - none result in a decent signal.

Static noise is minimal (not audible unless I crank up my speaker amp) but the mic signal is only just above the amplitude of the noise (also not audible at normal speaker amp volume).
If I turn boost up the signal and noise increase together. With +20db boost, mic input is audible with my speaker amp at normal volume, but the noise is also boosted to an unacceptably high level.

It's an old and basic mic but it's not at fault. It works fine and produces a clear recording on my mother's 4 year old MSI laptop, just as it did on my previous motherboard (ASUS P5N32e-SLI).

Xenofonuz, of course it is 3.5. If it were USB then it would have nothing to do with the on-board sound card and I wouldn't be talking about it on this forum.

Is there a fix for this already? Is asus leaving its customers with a faulty product?

This is pathetic. Has Asus said anything about the issue now?

My microphone has a constant static noise and they need to fix this!

I installed the latest driver for the sound and is EXCELLENT, especially in Games like Crysis 3 using my old SENNHEISER headset. No sound issues here with the VI HERO


As for the sound issue. I agree, open wires at the jack (or in the case) or even not plugged in fully is a possible issue.

P.S.
Even in HD7770 GHz 1Gb cards in the VI HERO in Crossfire, Crysis 3 looks about as good as my GTX 780. Go figure.

I just found the cause of my problem. I set up the network adaptor link speed to 100 Mbps Full Duplex instead auto negociation by default. Now the problem disappeared.

Dropping the link speed and the noise disappearing may indicate bad cable shielding?

It really seems that asus has just left us with faulty product. Example with latest drivers volume is too low, but then with all older drivers i have tested so far get annoying white noise from my speakers. Using Yamaha RX-V375 receiver which is connected to pc with optical spdif. I dont get any white noise/buzzing with other sources (ps3, dvd player) so its definately something to do with motherboards onboard audio.

So is there actually some drivers that does work proberly with this mobo?

Go Control panet -> Hardware and sound --> Sound --> Select the connected speaker of the list -> Enhancements
---> tick "Disable all the enhancements" and press ok.

Then the low sound volume will be fixed.

Sorry if I'm in the wrong thread or somthing guys this is my first post. Just recently I have had a problem with the sound on my rig and the problem is that all audio regardless of it coming from a game, itunes, the Internet or windows sound effects on start up, is muffled and very bass emphasised. I have tried all the audio jacks on the rig aswell as different speakers ( and tried headphones to see if that made any difference) but no change all the audio is still muffled. I'm thinking that maybe the onboard sound of the motherboard is starting to fail, which wouldn't surprise me as it's almost three years old now. The only way I have found that I can get the audio to play normally is to run all audio and video through the hdmi cable from the output of my graphics card rather using the audio ports.

What are your thoughts guys, if the general consensus is that it's the onboard sound, would it be worth in getting a dedicated sound card?
