Maximus VI Hero problems : USB key and overclocked frequency changing

Hello,

I encounter 2 problems with the Hero motherboard :

1. The CPU frequence does not remain at the overclocked frequency : if the application is not too intensive (Hyper Pi, WORD, Excel...), the frequency changes constantly from 3400 Mhz to 4800 Mhz. I disabled C-states, Speedstep, but Turbo is enabled. I assume that Turbo is responsible for this phenomenon but if I disable it, I cannot overclock anymore.

2. Yesterday, I installed Windows 7 from a USB3 key and the installation took 1 hour instead of 10 minutes on other motherboards, with the same USB key (ADATA S102 16 GB) and the same SSD. The USB3 key was plugged in one of the blue USB plugs located on the rear motherboard panel. Then I tried on a USB2 plug and the speed seemed as slow as the USB3 connector. I tested my USB key with Crystaldsikinfo and My read results are as expected. My writes are lower than expected but they are not likely to be the cause because I assume that installing Windows consists of reads only. Then, today, I plugged the ADATA key again into a USB3 plug, booted, launcned the Windows 7 installation and the beginning was very fast, even faster than ever (when the screen is black and "Windows is loading files" is displayed) but when the language is requested, the screen was frozen.

Any ideas concerning these 2 problems ?

1) Set Windows to High performance mode in power options if you want static frequency. Though, I wouldn't. The power saving modes are GOOD and should be left as is IMO.

2) This sounds odd. Care to share other system specifics - all other parts used, configuration details and UEFI version?

For the 1st point, it works. Thank you.

For the 2nd point :
Maximus Hero bios 0224
4670K watercooled
4x8 GB Gskill Ripjaws-Z DDR3-1866 cas 10
ASUS GTX690
SSD Samsung 830 512 GB
2 HDD 2 TB each
Samsung DVD writer
ASUS Xonar Essence STX
Power supply Coolermaster Silent Pro Hybrid 850W

When I encountered the USB key problem, my CPU was not overclocked. During the installation, especially the files decompression took a very long time.

When I launch HyperPi, the CPU works onlu at 2 - 3 % instead of 100 %. I don't know the reason.

Are you running HyperPi in the 32M mode?
Also, you might try running Intel Burn test just to be sure your cores run at 100%.

Yes, in 32M mode.

With IBT or OCCT, my cores run at 100 %.
