Maximus VI Hero does not detect SATA-III drives

Hi guys,

I have three 2 TB SATA-III HDD drives: 1x Seagate 2x WD. All three devices are working and I was using them as storage on my old desktop. Now I have new build with Maximus VI Hero and Kingston 120GB SSD.
Connected SSD - installed Win 7, working perfectly.
When I connect other HDD to motherboard I get Error A2 with boot_device_LED on. Screen apears 'Press F2' for setup, but my USB keyboard is not working to press F2 or DEL at this stage. My SSD connected to SATA6G_1 slot, and HDD I tried various combinations.
I am sure there is nothing wrong with my drives or motherboard, it should be some settings I dont know.
I have PCI Express USB 3.0 card - Asus U3S6, when I connect two drives to this card, my system boots ok and I have drives working.
Any suggestions, Thanks.

Did you update the BIOS?
CPU's are made from condensed smoke. Once you let the smoke out, they're fried.

A2 is not an error but a code.
It tells you that an IDE drive .has been detected.

You need to use Disk Management to create partition.

Go in Control Panel i have windows 7,then Administrative Tools,Computer Management,Disk Management.Create partiotion and format the drive.

Which SATA port did you connect the mechanical drives too?

Make sure your SSD is connected to the Intel 6G port - which you say you have, or is that the Asmedia port?

Which is the exact model of your SSD?
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Thanks for reply

I did, updated to 1301
...and guess what.. I connected 3rd drive (previous two were connected via PCI card) and it works, but then I tried to connect first two directly to motherboard and still get that error (or code) and it does not boot.

thanks but not really, I tried different cables (even not originals that comes with MB), also other devices are working fine.

Sorry, but I dont think so. I mentioned that I used them on my other desktop, so they have partitions (NTFS) and data already.
BTW I can access data at the moment no problem, I just want them to be connected to MB, and not to PCI extension card.

SSD is connected to Intel 1 port, I am not using Asmedia ports.
My SSD is Kingston SV300S37A/120G

That SSD uses the Sandforce 2881 controller I seem to recall. I also know that the 2 series controllers have issues with the Z87 platform, and can not help but wonder if this is causing the issues. Do you have another OS drive that you can test with, and see if the other hard drives are picked up when used. Of course it would need to be a none sandforce controller drive if a SSD drive.

Ok, I tried another HDD drive with OS (old maxtor 320gb). All was the same:
Maxtor alone in slot1 - boot
Maxtor slot1 & HDD3 slot4 - boot
Maxtor slot1 & HDD1 or HDD2 any slot - no boot
Maxtor slot1, HDD1&HDD2 via PCI, HDD3 slot 4 - boot (can see all drives and data)

Getting back to some reply I decided to delete existing partition and to format it (HDD1), I will get back with results.

Also, I said that all devices are working properly, I was wrong: This morning, after PC been switched off over night (it rare thing for me), I get error 'CPU Fan error, press F1 to enter Setup', immediate restart did not helped, but after half minute worming up error disappeared. I have CM H212 Evo CPU Cooler, and it is connected, I can see fan spinning, and in UEFI Bios it shows CPU Fan RPM ~600 (in red). Can it be related?

Hi, its been a while since last time i wrote, but finally I managed to format my HDD1. No results again, tried without partition and with, but still get the same result. I dont get it, my HDD1 is exactly the same model as HDD3, one is recognized and another is not. ...and I still can access all 3 drives via my PCI card with no problem (that means that drives and cables are ok).

Which settings I check in BIOS? Spend loads of time on Google trying to find something related to my problem, but no luck so far.
