Maximus VI Hero & I7-4771 (Non-K CPU)

Anyone using the Maximus VI Hero with an i7-4771 (Non-K) CPU? If so, how are they playing together?:)

I recently purchased the i7-4771 CPU and am looking at the Maximus VI Hero board to pair it with. Now, I know my CPU isn't an over-clockable CPU, but I am interested in this motherboard for is "supposedly" better audio, Intel Network controler and overall good looks. Plus I love the Red & Black theme.

I'm not using i7-4771 but I've got Hero and I can't hear any big difference compared to my previous Foxconn mobo. Any mobo onboard sound will sound worse than any other internal sound card. If you are an enthusiast and want good sound, go get Asus Xonar Phoebus. It's quite expensive though but it really is worth it and matches the ROG style. 😉

Otherwise you can't go wrong with Maximus VI Hero. Everything looks awesome and "plays" awesome. At least on my side. 🙂

Other reason for getting a hero over a none OC boards is PICe3 for SLI Xfire. I've own this board for alittle over 3 months and I have say I like it very much. The UEFI is slick and works well.

For a gamer the Hero is a stunning board I really like it I must say.

UPDATE: I posted this same question on on a few other forums and most everyone brought up some great points. I've been researching motherboards for awhile now and there's not much difference (internally) in all the ones I was interested in. For the most part the internal components are pretty much the same on all the boards I was looking at.

It was a hard decision to make, but I decided to go with the ASUS Z87-PRO (V EDITION). It's the same as the regular Z87-PRO minus the wireless capability. I also gambled and ordered it from Newegg as an open box item and got a great price of $127.99. Hopefully I won't have any problems with it. Personally, I think it's an ugly board but it has a "quality" audio chip, Intel LAN controller and a motherboard debug LCD, all features I was looking for. The Hero VI board would have certainly looked better in my case, but since I won't be over-clocking the CPU it may have been overkill. Heck, this board may be too, but I think I'll be happy with my decision. At least I sure hope so. I'll let you all know soon.

By the way, if anyone owns this board let me know what you think of it.

I have received my motherboard and am very happy to report that all other items were included in the box (Software DVD, Manual, SATA Cables, SLI Bridge Connector, I/O Shield and the ASUS Q-Connector Kit). Nothing is missing!

The motherboard came in a plain white box. Would have liked to received the original motherboard box, but no big deal. The motherboard was wrapped in the anti-static bag and sealed. I have thoroughly examined the motherboard, front and back, for any cosmetic damage and I am happy to report that the motherboard looks brand new. I do NOT see any cosmetic damage at all. No boogers found or blemishes to report! 😉 The board looks awesome!

I hooked the motherboard up, turned the power on and it booted right up without any problems! I am on it right now testing it further as I write this post! 🙂 So far, so good! I'll report back soon with any necessary updates.

Ya open box means it's a return or a display - and may or may not have all the items that come with the board - hope you have better luck then I do when it comes to open box's. plus you don't get full warranty, 90 days. Unless ASUS does thing diff. then MSI does.

I hope I get everything that's suppose to be included with the board. Certainly hope the board isn't defective in any way.

So, you have had bad luck with open box items from Newegg? Most all the comments around the web have been positive on ordering open box items from Newegg.
