Maximus VI Gene vs Gryhpon?

From my research I have seen that the Gene seems to have issues with memory. Asus even lists the memory in the stats as: "4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2600(O.C.)/2500(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333(O.C.)"

So, every memory speed is an OC, not a real supported memory speed. I am looking at a build for a home theater gaming PC. I am concerned with the memory issues with this system. I would like to run Corsair Dominator Platinum DHX 1866C9 4x8GB. Is this going to work with this motherboard? Or is that a lost cause. I am just very concerned when Z87 is supposed to support DD3-1866 without any overclocking. Every other Z87 motherboard I have seen lists it as a standard supported speed.

On the other hand the Gene beats the Gryphon on most gaming benchmarks. I would prefer the better audio section and the ability to have WiFi internal.

Not sure if we're looking at the same product page, but this is what it shows for the M6G.

The official supported frequency according to Intel is 1600MHz, that's why anything over that speed is considered an overclock. Also to be noted, the amount of RAM you're able to run at a certain frequency depends on your CPU's IMC.

I am looking at: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_GENE/#specifications

Ok, I downloaded the manual and it lists 1600 and 1333 as not OC.

A media centre has little need for high speed ram. You are good to go with basically any of the mainstream ram options, just ensure you get a single kit and do not mix and match.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I said an HTPC GAMING system. 😉 It is pairing with a 4K display and a pair of 780 Tis.

Thanks for the responses guys, I have decided to move away from the MicroATX form factor, so this is moot now.
