Hello vajoiner, If you have bios version 1504 or greater there is no need to update the bios.

Here is how to check what version you have.

Do you need help installing your cpu?

And if you need to update your bios JJ from Asus has a nice video of how to do it without installing anything on his pcdiy YouTube channel

I believe the videos called "what to do with your parts before you build"

Does require a flash drive to upgrade it the way JJ does in the video

Its no problem, also if ur board has been sitting for 3+ months its probly 100% got an older bios so you'd want to upgrade it

I found the video I listed very helpful, wasent my first build so I already knew what I was doing but I still found it very useful

Also showed me how to upgrade the bios and such with nothing installed which was something I had not seen to much before plus I just love jj's passion and in depth explanations lol

As stated update your bios as needed. With the USB bios flashback method it is very easy to update bios even if you do not have a CPU.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

got my 4790k in last night! and installed!
if it wasn't for those videos, i might have been a bit lost. if you look up bios update on the asus website, it will tell you to hold the rog connect button w/ your thumb drive inserted until the button flashes. what it doesn't tell you is to wait until it stops flashing to remove it. had i not watched the video i might have thought the flashing button meant 'ok' but i remembered the video shows the bios taking like 30+ seconds to update instead of 3 seconds (to flashing button). anyway, all good!
btw, coming from an i7-920 i didn't know rar files could unzip so fast! 😄
