Maximus VI Formula Overview and Discussion Thread

The Maximus VI Formula should be available to purchase in a few weeks. A motherboard many have been waiting for, and for good reason. Plenty of cool features on offer, we won't go into them all, but have picked out some of the salient ones for you to check out below:

Board layout and features at a glance:

Gaming Features

SupremeFX

The Maximus VI Formula sports a specialized audio solution called SupremeFX. Based on Realtek’s latest ALC1150 chipset, the Cirrus Logic DAC and the TPA6120 headphone amplifier and an optimized PCB layout - isolating PCB layers and spacing sensitive traces away from other areas of the motherboard. Shielding is also utilized to minimize spurious noise from entering signal lines. High quality capacitors are used for power supply decoupling to minimize ripple and provide a low impedance at audio critical frequencies. The end result is a 120dB SNR, placing the Maximus VI Formula's onboard audio solution on par with the best discrete soundcards available.

On the software side, the latest addition to the package is Sonic Radar:

The Sonic Radar GUI

Sonic Radar is a HUD that is useful in FPS games. It shows a visual representation of where sounds are coming from. The location of footsteps, gunshots, explosions and anything else is shown in the 360 degree HUD while gaming:

BF3 – Sonic Radar showing direction of audio effects

The HUD can be made more transparent and its location on the screen changed. Sonic Radar very useful feature when gaming with stereo headsets, where surround effects are simulated and may not be easy to pinpoint.

On the subject of headsets, Perfect Voice has been added to improve the clarity of VOIP calls. It’s a software based filter that uses digital signal processing to remove noise pickup from your mic while making a call:

DSP helps reduce ambient noise for clearer comms

Perfect Voice works with any plug in microphone/headset to clean up voice transmission during calls.

ROG RAMDISK

With high density memory modules and kits becoming the norm, many of us have an abundance of free memory on our systems that never gets utilized. ROG RAM Disk has been coded to take advantage of that free space to help speed up the system.

ROG RAM Disk GUI

Unlike many free RAM drive tools, ROG RAM DISK has no size limitations – up to 80% of the free memory (not used by the OS) can be configured as a RAM drive.

To get you an idea of how fast a RAM drive is, check the screenshot below:

10000 MB/s sequential write speeds

Applications stored on ROG RAM DISK are written to hard storage (HHD/SSD) when the system is prompted for shutdown.

Of course, re-installing games to the RAM DISK would be a painful experience. That's why ROG RAM DISK has a feature know as Junction Mode.

Setting a junction point to a game folder allows critical game files to be transferred to the RAM DISK without interfering with the original installation. Just point the software at the game folder and it will take care of the rest. This way, critical files such as maps can be accessed directly from the RAM DISK, speeding up load times.

Discussing features is fine, but what really matters for many users in knowing a board can overclock and run stable. How about 24 hour stability testing? Here's a few screenies from JJ, showing the Maximus VI Formula running different memory configs and CPU overclocks:

Over 24 hours AIDA64 passed at 4.7GHz DDR3-2800 16GB 4x4

Over 24 hours AIDA64 passed at 4.6GHz DDR3-2133 32GB 8X4

4.8GHz DDR3-2400 AIDA 1 Hour - right at the limits of the CPU and cooling

Hello,

I have had many USB 3.0 issues with my new build. After days of trial and error testing just on this problem, I have narrowed the issue to the USB 3.0 Boost module in AI Suite 3. The incompatibility is with a SansDigital RAID subsystem directly connected to the mobo back-plane USB 3.0 ports and also attempted connection through ports on an Anker 10 port USB 3.0 hub.

I have run the AI Suite Cleaner - It is an incomplete removal and the USB 3 compatibility issues remain. I have reinstalled AI Suite 3, then downloaded AI_Suite3_USB3_Boost_Win8-1_VER10617 which will not install. I tried to install from the Setup.exe in the root folder and then the setup.exe in the USB 3.0 Boost - V1.06.17\AppSetup folder. After many uninstall/reinstall trial and error attempts the update install FAILS.

Current AIS 3:
USB 3.0 Boost - 1.06.15
Dual intelligent Processors 4 - 1.01.16
System Information - 1.00.09
etc.

Questions:
1) How to update AI Suite 3 properly?
2) Anyone else running Win 8.1 having USB 3.0 issues with M6F and/or AIS 3?

I am just trying to avoid more frustrating trial and error troubleshooting. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael Downs

Hello could use some help with my formula.

I have the latest bios installed and using 4770k on board gpu.

I set raid in bios and when rebooting I get no intel raid bios.

As a matter of fact, all I get is a black screen if I have boot logo disabled. If boot logo is enabled I will get that but no post info.

Anyone know how to get the raid bios to appear? I know it is working as my swapped raid setup automatically worked from another machine but I can't set up a new raid if I can't get in the bios.

Also, board has some weird issue when using a keyboard connected to a few USB hubs away. Bios will start but just lockup on American mmegarends screen.

I just finished setup of new Build and I am getting an Q code A2 previous it shows 64 and I think 99.
the Boot device by the 24 pin ATX power led is lit- I have a couple of SSD's but havent gotten to the point of putting in Win 7 in the DVD drive or anything yet- was expecting to get to a BIOS on the screen - HDMI from ASUS GTX760 card- tried the onboard HDMI too no difference no display.

So what is best procedure to troubleshoot as ASUS tech support not answerting phones - busy signal

THoughts not reallly sure what procedure below to try next or what Q codes really mean
A2 id IDE detect??
64 is CPU DXE init started??
99 is SUper intitialization

other keyboard led's lite work fans good etc

what should I try - what to attck this the right way. should I do ______ first
disconnect two SATA cables and retry
disconnect DVD sata cable retry
disconnect PCI-e graphics card retry
clear CMOS retry

I purchased the OC Controller for this board, hooked it up, and now my computer will not post speeds past 800mhz per core. Im running a 4770k. Bios shows same settings at 4200 I have disabled EIST and CPU C Disabled. What do I need to do to be able to use this controller. I corrected the issue by disconnecting the controller, resetting the bios, and reloading my OC Settings.

Pop off the cover for the OC Panel. You should see two switches that are close together. The Pause switch and the Slow Mode. Make sure the Slow Mode switch is turned to off.

Disconnect all your USB devices.

This did not work, it barley loaded my computer. It runs slow at 800mhz again. Also now that its disconnected again, my computer takes like 3 minutes to enable the nic card and takes 3 minutes to be able to load any programs. The computer does run at 4.4 ghz though. Im thinking of returning this, and im pretty frustrated as I do not think Im getting the most out of this mother board.

I have all 3pin fans and do not know what else this mother board has to offer over running anything else with my 4770k that would allow for over clocking. It looks clean and that's about it for me. What else can I do to maximize my use of this board. I figured the control unit would be nice to be able to tune on the go, but I cannot even get that to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. I'm have Formula VI motherboard and trying to figure out if I can install NGFF M.2 SSD in mPCI combo II slot. Let me state that I really like this board and after a purchase I installed wi-fi and bluetooth module that came with the board to use wireless. Here is my question. Can I add NGFF M.2 format SSD as well or it plugs into same connector as wi-fi module? Do I need to pull little wi-fi card out in order to have SSD connected or I can have both an the same time?

Thanks

thunderbolt, sirs. there's a tb header on the board. will the Z87 tb card work on the formula? if not, why? and/or why isn't there a card for this board? i be wanting one. argh.
