Maximus VI Formula - Code A2

Hi all. I'm a bit of newbie so would appreciate any help.

Recently I ordered parts to build a pc. All seemed to be going well until I tried turning it on and had nothing come up on my monitor.

I opened the case to see the motherboard showing code A2 and Boot Device Led lit.

My current setup is as follows:

CPU: Intel i5-4670k
HDD: Samsung SSD 250G 840BW EVO
RAM: 16gb (2x8) G. Skill RipJawsX DDR3-2133
PSU: Seasonic X-Series 750W 80 Plus Gold
GPU: Gigabyte GV-N770OC-4GD
CASE: Fractal Design Define R4
OPTICAL DRIVE: Pioneer BDR-209DBK
MONITOR: Samsung S24C300HL (only connection option to the motherboard/gpu is HDMI)

I have not yet installed an OS on my SSD. This is a totally new build.

I have tried booting the system with the monitor connected to the HDMI port on the motherboard and tried with it connected to HDMI port on the video card - still see code A2 and no activity on monitor.

I only have a keyboard connected to a usb 2.0 port (so no mouse connected) at the back. I have tried booting with no usb devices connected - still see code A2 and no activity on monitor.

I have tried booting with no usb devices connected and no monitor connected - still see code A2.

I have tried using different Sata cables with no success.

I have tried turning fast boot off with no success.

I have noticed one thing: when I press the power button on my case the board powers on - goes through a number of different codes and then when it reads 00 appears to power off then power on again ( which is when it stops at A2).

Pease help. I'm stumped as to what I should do to make it all work.

Cheers

Well I'm not sure what I did but I seem to have fixed it ....so far.

I made sure the SSD and the Blu Ray drive were connected correctly (I think SATA 1 for the SSD and Sata 3 for the Blu Ray).

Connected the HDMI cable from my monitor to the Gigabyte video card.

I put a Windows 7 64-Bit bootable disc into the Blu Ray drive.

Made sure NO usb devices were connected.

Powered on - and voila we have action. Received a message about no keyboard detected so connected my USB keyboard - and it started working. Entered BIOS fine now.

Man. I guess its a matter of trying EVERY permutation and combination until the thing finally kicks in one way or another.

Anyway .... I've made it to the BIOS. Will keep posted about how I go from now on.

Glad you fixed it. Issues like these you can debug with this list generally:

1) Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input - most monitors require manual setting to select the correct input.
2) Make sure the graphics card is correctly seated.
3) Use just one memory module and see if that helps.
4) Remove all SATA devices and see if that helps.
