Maximus VI Extreme - Not detecting second GPU

Hey all, I'd really appreciate some help here. Hoping this can be solved without having to RMA due to the huge amount of time it takes.

My motherboard (Maxmimus IV Extreme) isn't detecting my second graphics card at all. They're placed in to the correct slots as specified in the manual with the first at the top red slot closest to the CPU, and the other in the black slot.

As far as I'm aware this isn't a driver issue, the motherboard just isn't detecting anything. The light indicating a lane is active only lights up for the first GPU in the top slot. It's not a faulty LED either, the BIOS also lists the black slot as being "Not Present".

I've checked that both cards work, and I've tried placing the cards in to a combination of different slots, as well as trying to run one card in one slot which doesn't work unless it's placed in the top red one.

I'm thinking that the second card just isn't seated properly due to the large red SATA ports mounted on the board stopping it from fully going in to the slot. It seems firmly in there, but the card is completely flush with the top of the ports so I worry it might be obstructing the card from being fully seated. As far as I know, there's no way to take the port adapters off.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, or how to fix it? As I said, I only want to RMA as a last resort because I shudder at the thought of waiting 4-6 weeks to get it back.

Motherboard: Maximus VI Extreme
Graphics Cards: 2 x Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB
PSU: Corsair AX1200i 1200w

If the card is not seated properly then its not even installed and you can't expect it to work. Sounds like the length of the card is longer then what can be supported on the motherboard. If you can pull the board up without releasing the PCI-E lock then there isn't anything you can do to get it to work.

I would return the boards and get a product that isn't as long.

A few things

1) Even tho the card is flush with the SATA ports it is seated. I would not worry about this.

2) Check the PCIe switches near the memory slots are in the "on" position.

3) Try the card in one of the other slots.

4) Check the CPU socket for any bent pins. Re-seat CPU.

5) Update to latest UEFI if not done so already.

Have you checked the PCIe dip switches? maybe only the 1st is actually switched to on and the rest are off? if you're not sure what i'm talking about, look for the little red box below the 2 power buttons, top right corner of your motherboard, below the QCODE Display 🙂

Do you have ANY other cards in the remaining PCIe slots?

I Quote from the manual
"PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_B2 slot will be disabled when PCIe 3.0/2.0_x16_A2, PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_3, PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_4"

Maybe you have activated pcie1 port onli, , on the motherboard, you can find 4 switches, they hav , pcie-1, pcie-2, pcie-3, pcie-4.
But , if all of them are activated (On) the problem is in your bios config, the process is :
1° Go to Bios Config
2° Advanded Mode
3°Graphics
now you have 3 options , pick second, and you have somthing about pcie 1, it is when u have only one graphic card , its optimized for one pcie pory, it will be activated in you case, i think that , turn it off, now , the other pcie ports are enabled, its the solution.

Note: Dont touch the things about , iGPU, that , is not cnvenient for you , because , you have graphics cards its only for graphics integrated.

I will wait , you understand me , sorry for my bad english, i speak spanish xd , and i cant speak english so well , im trying to help you , i dont use the google translator, because it dont work very fine with some words about computers.
