Maximus VI Extreme - Advice on RAM

This is my first time posting here so I apologise if this question is covered in another thread or if I have posted this in the wrong section of the forum.

My finger is currently hovering over the buy now button on a 4770k and the Asus Maximus VI Extreme, however I am unsure what RAM to get to help maximise my gaming performance. I would be extremely grateful to receive some advice or recommendations on which RAM to invest in.

As I already mentioned; it is for a gaming rig, and I am more concerned with the performance than the price. 16GB would be sufficient for my needs.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Republic of Gamers forum, ProjectAngel.

Benchmarks have shown that 1600MHz memory kits will suffice for gaming. Anything faster than 1600MHz isn't worth it. Regarding the amount of RAM, I'd consider 8GB being more than enough for gaming. But if you want to future proof (if such a thing exists), you can grab 16GB since performance is more important to you than price. 😉

Hey, thanks for the reply. My original thoughts was 8GB too, however I'd like this rig to last a while so decided upon 16GB. Would it make sense for me to go for 2133MHz for that same reasoning, or will that never come in to play in terms of gaming?

Also, do you have any suggestions on specific kits to buy? I was looking at the TeamGroup Vulcan 2133MHz however I'm not really sure if the timings are good and how / if it will impact game performance. Also, if you are right in saying that anything above 1600MHz isn't worth it would I be better of spending the same amount on some 1600MHz RAM instead?

That's a question that I will not be able to answer. With the rate technology is evolving, perhaps faster RAM will reap greater performance agains in gaming in the future, or maybe it will not. But at the present time, 1600MHz is the minimum for gaming.

But I've noticed the the difference between the faster kits and slower kits aren't very big. In most cases, the difference is a few dollars. If your budget permits it, then get one of the faster kits although it will make no difference in gaming. Just don't go overboard and spend $2500 for a 3200MHz kit. LOL Even 2400MHz is pretty reasonable for its price.

The Team Group ram is very good and I have used their products many times with few issues.

The key thing to understand here is that capacity is more important right now than frequency. 1600MHz - 2133MHz is the perfect range. 16GB is the sweet spot for amount of ram, that would suite both a gamer and a media person. I have not seen more than 8GB used in any game that I currently play.
