Maximus V Gene Z77 USB Trouble, Mouse Freezing

SharpAimX
Level 7
Just finished my new build runing an i7 2600K and I am having an issue with my USB 2.0 ports. Any mouse I plug into it causes the mouse to constantly crash every few seconds so it'll freeze up, DPI lights turn off, then it connects back and lights turn back on.

I also notice in the Device Manager in Other devices -> Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller -> The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

The device manager also refreshes every time the mouse disconnects. It works fine when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Keyboard functions fine, it's only the mouse, no matter what port I use. What could be wrong? Thanks.

EDIT:
*I think I solved the problem, installed the Intel USB 3 drivers aswell, I figured I only needed the Asmedia ones. Will report back if I encounter the issue again.*

With Bios 0813 it works perfectly now!
Great work!

which usb ports are people using ? I have no issues with my keyboard (G15) on the Intel USB3 - but even after bios update was having intermittant mouse freezes on bootup with my Razor mouse (updating the drivers and bios had not helped as I thought they had)

BUT - fingers crossed plugging the mouse into the Asmedia USB3 port and I've not had trouble so far ...

I'm having the same kind of problems as everyone here - nothing has fixed yet. Updated BIOS to most recent, downloaded and installed most recent drivers.

This problem is driving me nuts. ASUS Tech support useless "Do you want to RMA?" is all I ever get out of them. Would be ncie if they actually triued to think through issues instead of reading their scripts.....

I have built 15+ systems, using mostly ASUS boards. Never had this problem before - and it's my 2nd board with the exact same repeatable problems.

Any other advice?

Thanks!

most guys fixed it with bios update, whats ur config, list all peripherals atrtached

i install win 7 like 5-10 times. in my case for all USB , mouse & keyboard, freeze or work very slow or in brakes. the only solution i find it was to install chipset first and restart. install asmedia usb3 , restart and last intel usb3 restart. bios update didn't have any effect. i try 2 times in this way and it was work. in 2 days i have to reinstall win on my ssd. hop the trick will work.

Any updates on this? I updated to BIOS 0903 and still having mouse issues. Incredibly annoying.

I do not have any issues with that BIOS (and I used to have the issue). Have you tried using USB 3.0 ports or the other workarounds mentioned in this thread? It might tide you over at least.

It only exists with mice that have higher level functions (macro, higher DPI, DPI switch, other special functions, etc..).... With my basic mouse, I haven't experienced an issue with USB 2.0 or 3.0.

I would like to be able to use my more expensive mice, though :(.

I'm not having any issue with my Logitech G400 anymore, and it has DPI adjustment and programmable buttons. Are you sure your BIOS upgrade was successful?

Maybe I'll try and get some other mice models from my friends and see if my particular mice are the problems. They are older, so that could be it.

Thanks for your input!
