Maximus V Gene Z77 USB Trouble, Mouse Freezing

SharpAimX
Level 7
Just finished my new build runing an i7 2600K and I am having an issue with my USB 2.0 ports. Any mouse I plug into it causes the mouse to constantly crash every few seconds so it'll freeze up, DPI lights turn off, then it connects back and lights turn back on.

I also notice in the Device Manager in Other devices -> Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller -> The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

The device manager also refreshes every time the mouse disconnects. It works fine when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Keyboard functions fine, it's only the mouse, no matter what port I use. What could be wrong? Thanks.

EDIT:
*I think I solved the problem, installed the Intel USB 3 drivers aswell, I figured I only needed the Asmedia ones. Will report back if I encounter the issue again.*

You think we're gonna see some driver updates anytime soon?

or somekinda fix from asus.

So I appear to be having a similar issue with my mouse freezing on my Maximus V. Following the advice on this thread of doing a complete power cycle, meaning unplugging the computer from the wall outlet and waiting a minute, the problem seemed to go away. However, I have only been running the computer for a few hours since then.

The computer was built just a couple days ago and at first all seemed fine. However last night I started to have the issue where my mouse would freeze. The problem was exasperated after playing BF3 for an hour or so, when I returned to the desktop the mouse would freeze every couple of minutes. That is when I found this thread and proceeded to do the power cycle. Obviously this is not an ideal solution, is there any other recommended fixes for this issue?

Some Notes:
Windows 7 Pro (fully updated)
All the drivers for the motherboard were obtained from the enclosed CD that came with the motherboard.
mouse: Logitech G500

This problem is affecting me as well. I've got all the drivers installed, and that seemed to improve things but I'm still seeing a lot of random mouse freezing. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the mouse DOESN'T freeze when I'm stressing the CPU, such as when running Prime95. I'm going to play around in the BIOS some more when I have time, but in the meantime, if you keep Prime95 or some other CPU stressing application running in the background, it might help your problem.

Iv got hold of a older dell keyboard, that seems be working fine. no freezing

still having problems using the microsoft arc keyboard tho, witch is working fine if i use it in my other pc's.

mouse problems only when using usb 3.0.

So I wanted to give an update on the mouse freezing issue. I updated all of my drivers from the Asus site and if the Intel site had newer ones I used those. USB 2.0 ports are still giving my mouse issues (Logitech G500) but with the mouse plugged into the USB 3.0 ports near the RJ45 jack I have no issues. Therefore not too big of an issue anymore; USB 3.0 ports aplenty on this motherboard! Other devices besides my mouse work fine in the USB 2.0 ports (i.e. keyboard, printer). I am hoping some future driver update will fix it. But at least the workaround is not too difficult, nor is it limiting me in any way as of now.

I tried that as well and it worked. However, my keyboard LEDs (G110) would flash on and off and turn on spontaneously if I turned them off. Very strange.

I plugged both my mouse (G400) and keyboard back into the USB2 ports and the keyboard LEDs stopped flashing spontaneously but my mouse started freezing again after a few minutes. I'm not sure what's up with the USB on this board. I did notice that a lot of people with problems seem to be using Logitech peripherals, though. Is anyone with the mouse freezing issue NOT using a Logitech mouse?

My old wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard EX110 are working fine but a bundled Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 I got with my new PC stutters/freezes every 20 seconds or so. I'd be very frustrated by now if it wasn't for my Logitech mouse. Hope a fix comes in soon. No observed DPC latency issues found on my ASUS Maximus Gene V rig.

Not only Logitech. Mice Cyborg R.A.T. 9 + Microsoft Arc Keyboard have same problem.

Interesting. The latest BIOS posted to Asus' download page is 0701, which is what I'm on. I hope they release this version officially soon. I don't want to go installing firmware for my motherboard from an unknown source 😉
