Maximus V Gene Z77 USB Trouble, Mouse Freezing

SharpAimX
Level 7
Just finished my new build runing an i7 2600K and I am having an issue with my USB 2.0 ports. Any mouse I plug into it causes the mouse to constantly crash every few seconds so it'll freeze up, DPI lights turn off, then it connects back and lights turn back on.

I also notice in the Device Manager in Other devices -> Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller -> The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

The device manager also refreshes every time the mouse disconnects. It works fine when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Keyboard functions fine, it's only the mouse, no matter what port I use. What could be wrong? Thanks.

EDIT:
*I think I solved the problem, installed the Intel USB 3 drivers aswell, I figured I only needed the Asmedia ones. Will report back if I encounter the issue again.*

I react to two things...
The mouse freezes for me when it's in the USB2-port, but when i play a game (not windows-based) it doesnt freeze there..

When reading the manual, doesnt it say that the mouse should be connected to the USB3??

Hello all!
Yesterday i have bought this mobo, and have to say after 12 years of buying asus mobo, this first one i have disappointed. Those usb 2 killing me, my mouse and keyboard keep freezing, I have tryed to reinstall all drivers also from intel and other sites, ofc from asus aswell, (also new bios) nothing helps. I did everything that people said on this threads. I have to connect mouse and keyboard to USB3 to use its normaly...
PS: In windows save mode mouse and keyboard works fine via usb 2
PS2: ubuntu same issue.

My question is: since its making so much trouble with mouse and keyboard would it defect my rom flashing to phone via USB2?? Or better not to risk and use old computer lol..... ( asus P5B )

I have this problem in a very specific scenario.

With my overclocked set up, using manual mode for the vcore, i.e. fixed voltage, no mouse stuttering via USB.

When I try offset voltages, and I am in windows, every time the voltage drops in order to save power the usb mouse starts stuttering.

The wireless mouse I have which is connected through a receiver which is utilising an internal USB2 board header works flawlessly.

Would match what I am experiencing. When speedstep reduces the voltage, the freezing occurs.

I also have a G400. Will try the complete power down cycle.

Hard to say that I know what fixed the issue on my board but I did try uninstalling and reinstalling the Asmedia USB drivers. The thing is that I didn't bother touching the USB ports again (both 2.0 and 3.0) until I finished updating Window 7 (including SP1). They work smoothly now but I'm not sure what actually fixed it.

Are you using fixed or offset voltages?

If offset, do you have all the C states enabled?

im having the same problems as those above me.

if i use the USB 3.0 my mouse + keyboard freezes

if i use 2.0 only my keyboard freezes / types 20 of the same letters.

have reinstalled all drivers 3 times, didnt work
Those from the Asus cd/dvd
directly from asus, hopepage
and from http://www.station-drivers.com/page/asmedia.htm

EHCI hand off - enabled, didnt work, having the same problems.

Keyboard is a g15 (cord), allso used a microsoft ARC(wireless), same on both
mouse is a logitech g500 (cord), and iv allso used a logitech darkfield ( wireless )

stuck here... with my new build 😞

I'll get back to this in a bit after I check; trying to get VirtuMVP to work with some games. I've been running with EPU enabled but I'll check the BIOS. I also have to say that I've noticed the mouse stopping for a second but it's very rare now.

Edit: Hmm, not sure what to check for this but I am running the PC with EPU enabled, it's on auto and Intel Speed Step is also on (auto). Totally forgot about this, the power phase is set to optimized because I have the stock cooler on at the moment.

Guess I was wrong, I just tried out the USB 3.0 ports under the 2.0 ports and those still lost connection. Oh well, back to the Intel ports.
