Maximus V Gene Z77 USB Trouble, Mouse Freezing

Just finished my new build runing an i7 2600K and I am having an issue with my USB 2.0 ports. Any mouse I plug into it causes the mouse to constantly crash every few seconds so it'll freeze up, DPI lights turn off, then it connects back and lights turn back on.

I also notice in the Device Manager in Other devices -> Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller -> The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

The device manager also refreshes every time the mouse disconnects. It works fine when plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Keyboard functions fine, it's only the mouse, no matter what port I use. What could be wrong? Thanks.

EDIT:
*I think I solved the problem, installed the Intel USB 3 drivers aswell, I figured I only needed the Asmedia ones. Will report back if I encounter the issue again.*

Although I have a IV Gene Z, our boards share some similarities. From your pic it appears you're missing the second ASMedia XHCI controller. Funny thing is that I'd expect you to have problems when you plug your mouse into that one set of ports. Let us know if you solved it.

BTW, I also found another thread discussing other "quirky" behavior on the USB3 bus and it looks like someone updated their ASMedia drivers to something newer than what Asus has posted. Food for thought.

Best of luck...

I had to download the drivers from the ASUS site since I haven't been able to purchase a slot-load disc drive for my FT03. So I figured I only needed one set of USB 3 drivers, turns out I need both the Asmedia and the Intel ones installed, weird thing though since they are USB3 drivers I figured they wouldn't affect the USB 2 ports, but the issue only happens on the USB 2 ports, the USB 3's are fine. Anyway so far 4 hours after installing the Intel USB drivers and not a hitch, I love this motherboard!

Not so strange when you consider that the USB is managed by the Intel side of things. USB3 is a licensed product from a third party.

Pleased that your issue is sorted.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Usually it's all plug and play though never needing USB2 drivers and only USB3 if you need to use them, atleast from the last builds I have had on X58, guess Z77 is at a whole other level.

i had the similiar problem with my Maximus V Gene on 2500K GTX560 TI Top Corsair Vengence ...
my problem was after i install Adobe X Reader and after i exit BF3 .. then my mouse frooze and some to my keyboard

i tried to restart = once in win7 64, both freeze ...
i went to bios, everthing is ok, i can move with my keyboard and mouse
back to win7 ... freeze ..
so i reset bios ... same ... bios ok .. win7 freeze ...
i went to bios to load default setting ...
reboot .... inside bios OK .. win7 freeze ..
so i went to win7 safe mode ... everthing ok .. i cannot uninstall win7 ..
so i replug all my asmedia usb 3.0 port and try plugging to asus usb3.0 port .. still same
tried every configuration of my mouse n keyboard on all asmedia and asus 3.0 port
finally ... i use my USD10 bucks cheap logitech mouse connected to my front (USB2.0) port ..
and it works ...

i reinstall asmedia and asus 3.0 mouse driver and now ... so far .. it's WORKING BACK TO NORMAL

can i get the "hardware-id" so i can see what i can dig up? if it's not a bad which on the board, but i think it's a bad driver.

EHCI hand-off enable in bios solved problem with usb2 ports for me.
Maximus V Gene

I have the same problem..

Formatted an ssd-disk and installed win7 (64bit pro), and if i remember correct i reacted to the mouse freezing already during the installation.. I thought that was normal but it didnt disappear after the installation, and i have been trying reinstalling all usb3 drivers a few time as well as the mouse drivers.. no warnings or anything abnormal in the device manager either..
What worked for me in the end was to plug my mouse into an USB3-port.. strange..
EHCI hand-off enable didnt work for me that either..

i did it by using a cheap logitech on the USB2.0 port to move around and re-installing both asmedia and asus 3.0 driver ....
