Maximus V Gene Q-code 55

Hi everybody,

I just got the new ROG Z77 motherboard. There is a 2500k CPU on it and four DiMM of Corsair Vengeance 4GB.

While I had no problem on the Maximus IV Gene-z, this one gives me a Q-code 55 ans refuse to boot.

After a few searches, here are my conclusions :

only slots A1 and A2 are working. Any DiMM in slots B1 and/or B2 will cause the code 55.

I tried another set of DiMM (Gskill 8GB kit), tried to reseat the CPU, looked for bended socket pins, upgraded the Bios from 0260 to 0602 but none of this solved the problem and I'm forced to use only 2 of my DiMMs in single channel mode A1+A2.

Any idea or should I do a RMA ?

remount cpu and remount rams

Already tried that :P, but thanks

Sounds like you'll need to RMA the mobo as the RAM slots are most likely FUBAR.

Which CPU cooler you using?? Is it bolt through?? Dont overtighten I as it will cause this error. Also check the pins in teh socket for any bent ones. Have you also tried disabling write swizzle its at teh bottom of DRAM page.

CPU cooler is Corsair H100, I had no problem on Maximus IV Gene -Z with it. It is indeed bold through with a backplate. I don't think it's overtighten but I'll check again to be sure. I'll try to boot with all 4 DiMMs and without any CPU cooler (just few seconds will be enough to see if code 55 appears or not). Also I checked the socket pins when reseating the CPU but I didn't seen any bent one.

I'll check the DRAM settings tomorrow. I think the "DRAM Write Additional Swizzle" is still in "AUTO" mode because the issue happens even with default BIOS settings . BTW what exactly this option do ?

Thanks all of you for your support. I hope I'll soon figure out if the MB definitely needs RMA or not.

Shamino would after explain that fully mate. i know the overall DRAM performance takes a slight hit from disabling but it does help with that code. Are you also on Maximus Tweak 1 for compatability and XMP profile ???

Dont run it without cooler mate. Thats suicide. Just dont overtighten especially the backplate.

Just for ~5 seconds MAX you think the CPU will overheat ? If so, I'll not do that then 😛

I thought that the H100 couldn't be overtighten as the the thread length of the 4 screws is designed to match the perfect pression on the CPU. But I'll try to unscrew a bit to be sure it's not that causing the issue. Surely it wasn't causing any issue on the previous Z77 R.O.G. MB.

I'll try the DRAM disabling thing tomorrow morning (french time ^^) and yeah Ai Overclock Tuner option is set on "X.M.P." mode.

Anyway, the issue occured already with stock BIOS (0262) default settings or upgraded BIOS (0602) default settings.

just slacken them a couple of turns and try again.
