Maximus V Gene Q code 55 / ram led lit up / code 76

Hi,

I would like to recieve some advice on my newly purchased maximus V gene.
Whenever i try to boot it up, everything starts spinning, i can hear the HDD, the cpu + case fans start working, but the debug led keeps giving a code 55.

The motherboard is used in combination with an ivy bridge 3570k cpu, and 8 gigs of corsair vengeance lp memory (Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9)

I have been reading about the issue on these forums / google, and have already inspected and reseated the cpu. It looks undamaged, atleast to my naked eye. I'd test it in another mobo but i do not have any friends running ivy bridge. nor sandy bridge for that matter... I've switched the ram modules inbetween all slots (A1,A2,B1,B2) to no avail. I've arranged for a friend to come along with a working piece of ram memory (straight from his pc) and will test it with that.

I've already tested with the ROG connect aswell, it seemed to give a code 76 once, but then started giving code 55 just aswell. (code 76 happened after i tried booting with the memory go button)

Oh, and i;ve cleared cmos aswell 🙂

Might you have any other tips? (i've already done all the basics, check connectors, check the sockets / benches for residue, made sure the screws are not too tight, made sure there is not contact on the mb other than from the spacers.)

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried adjusting the VCCIO to give the memory controller a little more juice for 4 sticks??

Also I would try all settings on auto, no xmp applied and try to boot with 4 sticks. Or load the high mhz profile and try boot with all sticks. What we may have here is different programmed spd's accross the two kits. Hence error 55 DRAM needs tuning.

Anyone get code 76 fixed?? I'm having that code come up everytim I boot. Updated to latest bios and am re-checking that everything is seated properly.

The same thing is happen to me too. Q 55 Code, I have reseated cpu, reset bios, reseated ram, and it still not working, because of that my machine won't boot.:mad::mad:

Clear CMOS

Completely remove all the hardware from your motherboard, and take the motherboard out of your case. Remember to disconnect the PSU connectors before you start to remove stuff.

Place the motherboard, now without CPU or battery on the box that your motherboard came in. It is a non-conductive and non-static surface.

Inspect the CPU socket area. I doubt that there is anything problematic there, but since the mobo is naked have a visual inspection for bent or misaligned pins.

Press start button for a couple of seconds to discharge the caps of any residual current.

Hold down the Clear CMOS button for a slow count of 3. Look in your manual if you are not sure where it is.

Leave your system as is over night. Or at least 8 hours.

Then with the bare minimum of hardware assembled in this order.

CPU and cooler.

One stick of ram in the furthest slot from the CPU.

One VGA

No hard drive.

No optical drive.

Keyboard and mouse.

VGA power connectors.

12 Volt CPU connector (8 Pin)

24 Pin power supply connector.

Plug the PSU into the wall socket.

Fat formatted USB stick with the latest BIOS connected a USB2 port.

Power up your system.

Make note of the two digit Q-Codes (if your motherboard supports a LED poster that is - if not look on your notebook using ROG connect.

Please use the delete key on the numeric keyboard, but most likely you will need to use F1 when prompted due to the clear CMOS.

Now navigate to the Tools in BIOS.

Select EZFlash2 and flash your BIOS.

DO NOT POWER DOWN.

The only time you will do anything is to select yes when asked if you wish to reset and reboot.

Let the system complete the iRog firmware upgrade if needed. This may take a few minutes but no longer than 30 mins.

Once you have completed the Flash and your system has reset and rebooted and you are back in BIOS. Power down.

Press Clear CMOS one more time.

Now add your OS hard drive only.

Power up to BIOS and set your SATA mode if needed.

Rebuild your system.

This part is for Error 55

Once in to BIOS, set your ram frequency and voltages, navigate to the ram tuning section and set the main timings using the quick tune. Disable the MRC Fast Boot

Set the Dram voltage manually.

with 4 sticks in my maximus v formula and xmp profile loaded (changed nothing else) i got that problem 55 too ... and i got a overclocking failed on reboot ... with only 2 sticks i could boot into windows but then my cpu was running at a fixed 3900MHz ... so in order to first get my system/windows stable i switched back to defaults running my 1866 corsair vengeance at 1333 and everything is fine

what ai overclocking and/or loading that xmp profile does: it changes a lot of things ... but as i am totally new to overclocking i can just tell what i experienced ... according to other users from a german forum (hwluxx) the same thing happens on gigabyte mainboards

my point is: make sure bios settings are all at default values (no ai overclocking enabled, no xmp profile loading ... do nothing but reset bios, load optimised defaults and then reboot ... your ram should now run at 1333 ... if you still got a problem maybe run memtest86+

but here i am not sure what is or can be the cause of that 55 or whatever you are getting after resetting bios as i have not had that problem

Have the same issue here. 16 gigs of Corsair Vengeance, but can only use 8 in single channel configuration.

Is Asus looking into this? This seems to be a common problem in this model.

If anyone solves this, please publish your solution so we can all use this otherwise great MB.

I get the 55 error code often too - you all are not alone on that. I have to play with memory settings and all sorts of other variables before I can resolve it. Most often I simply change CPU and it is fixed. So based on that fact it seems to be a CPU (IMC) issue and not so much a motherboard or BIOS issue.

But really besides trial and error at finding what works for you there is not much else I can offer.

Below are some of the things I do

Remove the CPU from the socket.
Remove all the PSU connectors from the motherboard.
Remove all other hardware.
Remove the battery.
Place the board on the box it came in, nonconductive surface.
Clear CMOS
Leave for 2 or 3 hours.

Inspect the socket just in case.

Connect all your hardware, but only one stick of ram.
Once in to BIOS, set your ram frequency and voltages, navigate to the ram tuning section and set the main timings using the quick tune. Disable the MRC Fast Boot
Set the Dram voltage manually.

Now F10 and enter.
Let the system reset and post back to BIOS.

Now power down and fit the rest of the ram. It should be good to go.

Hello everyone
Nothing helps .i have read a lot of forums , tried to do all the things possible changed rams cpus vga cards.

Finally changed the motherboard itself as i had guarantee , and woala new one works perfect

so take your motherboards to the service ask them to change it, check before taking it home .

Take care

i used to boot up my cpu to enter o.s by leaving the cpu on for 20 to 40sec to 1 min then press reset button..

then on the led error code started to run different codes thus entering o.s...when i got to o.s i used the pc normally with out any problem..

but do i have to do this step over and over again..sometimes im getting hdd checkups now same on my sdd because it started to

destroyed my hdd last time..good thing wd rma and replace my hdd i dont want to do this all the time as i suspect it can ruin my sdd aswell

.PS. i use my computer normally which means i checked my cpu through prime! and run it with no errors which means my cpu / ram(memtest)

has no problem!..very disappointed ROG mobo user!
