Maximus V Gene Q code 55 / ram led lit up / code 76

Hi,

I would like to recieve some advice on my newly purchased maximus V gene.
Whenever i try to boot it up, everything starts spinning, i can hear the HDD, the cpu + case fans start working, but the debug led keeps giving a code 55.

The motherboard is used in combination with an ivy bridge 3570k cpu, and 8 gigs of corsair vengeance lp memory (Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9)

I have been reading about the issue on these forums / google, and have already inspected and reseated the cpu. It looks undamaged, atleast to my naked eye. I'd test it in another mobo but i do not have any friends running ivy bridge. nor sandy bridge for that matter... I've switched the ram modules inbetween all slots (A1,A2,B1,B2) to no avail. I've arranged for a friend to come along with a working piece of ram memory (straight from his pc) and will test it with that.

I've already tested with the ROG connect aswell, it seemed to give a code 76 once, but then started giving code 55 just aswell. (code 76 happened after i tried booting with the memory go button)

Oh, and i;ve cleared cmos aswell 🙂

Might you have any other tips? (i've already done all the basics, check connectors, check the sockets / benches for residue, made sure the screws are not too tight, made sure there is not contact on the mb other than from the spacers.)

Thanks in advance!

Sorry if you felt i was suggesting that way... Absolutely it wasn't my intention! Just happening very frequently as can be seen in this Forum...

Again, I apologize...

55 means a number of things actually. It can mean modules are not inserted correctly, you have a bent pin in the socket, a warped board, a bed RAM stick, The CPU can make the frequency requested by bios but the DRAM needs tuning i.e timings changing or voltages tweaking.

m4x2012 it may well be a intel management system problem this which can be resolved with future bios updates. I would suggest you run with two sticks and wait for a response from support.

No problem m8, don't worry 😉

I've executed these simple steps:

- Trying each RAM in each slot (the pair of red and the pair of black)
- Memtest86+ 3 passes with each single RAM bank

RAM stated for 1600Mhz but test will be conducted @ 1333Mhz

Now system is working fine with 3 banks (4x3) for a total of 12Gb.

Ok so which channel is giving you the problems still??

No channel have problems, the issue encour only when I insert the 4th bank of RAM in every slot.

So, quad channel can not be used.

With the risk that I could be misunderstood again...

If each individual memory module passes Memtest86+ in each slot (I assume, you've tried this, otherwise you could not be sure that there is no channel problem), but they don't want to work together - that may be a memory kit issue...

Your kit is not on the ASUS QVL for that mobo... i know, Corsair is listing it as compatible though... Could you try an other memory kit?

Just mentioning that the Asus Maximus V Gene has a dual channel memory architecture...

Page 3 - CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 is in list of QVL.

I've see that only 8Gb is stated but I don't thing that dualx2 channel will create issue...

Well, you do have an issue with them... Two dual channel kits will not make a single quad channel kit!!!

A kit in general is meaning that the modules were matched... Even if you have two kits from the same manufacturer, with the same parameters - they still can be different quite different... When you buying them, you can see only the frequencies, voltage, and first tier timings... in order to have a matching kit, the second and third tier timing has to match too... - which in your case is clearly not happening...

Use only one kit or get a single bigger kit, don't mix two kits - that's the way to stay away from trouble...

Thanks.

But so why always from manual it saying that 4 DIMM configuration is supported?

Because the 4 DIMM configuration IS SUPPORTED! It's just has to be a MATCHING KIT... Like the CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10 (Ver2.2)(XMP) or CML16GX3M4X1600C8(Ver 2.12)(XMP) kits (from the same page you linked) just for an example...

It's interesting though, from the same page, the Corsair HX3X12G1600C9(XMP) 12GB 6x2GB!!! kit for the Maximus v Gene... since it has only 4 DIMM slots... maybe they're suggesting to use only 4 modules... but why buy six and not use them all?! - strange marketing...
