Maximus V Gene crashing during 3TB drive format in Win 10

I have two 3TB WD Red drives that are going to be used in a Raid 1. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro and a Maximus V Gene. The 3TB drives are connected to Disk 0 and Disk 1(which I believe are the inner 2 Red sata ports on the board) and Disk 2 and 3 are SSD's.

My Disk 0 Sata port was able to initialize and create a new GTP partition on the 3tb drive, but when i tried to quick format the drive the computer crashed. First i lost the ability to move the mouse, then the second LCD went dark, then the PC reset. I tried three times to format the drive on drive 0 the same thing happened. I was concerned that the drive itself was bad but when i swapped SATA cables and put the problem drive on the Drive 1 sata port it formatted just fine. Once formatted and moved back to Drive 0 everything seems to work just fine.

My concern is the potential of a bad sata port and whatever the issue is rearing its head down the line. Thoughts?

Bleh, it looks like that sata port is bad. I created the raid array in windows and while transfering files to the array Drive 0 drops out and when doing a long format the pc crashes.

Of course i'm 2 months out of warranty.
