Maximus V Gene Code 55

My computer was running perfectly well and smoothly until this afternoon. I received a new video card this afternoon (GTX 760) and so this morning, I took it out to move things around so that the new card would be able to fit. I did not touch the RAM at all (research tells me code 55 is a memory error).

Anyways, by the time I got to installing the video card this afternoon, the system wouldn't boot. Tested every single module in every single slot, each time with a code 55. Reset the CMOS several times, no cigar.
Tried reflashing the BIOS, but the LED would go stable red after blinking, which from what I read meant it didn't work.

Reseated my CPU to no avail, and while it was out, I took a look at the socket and everything was dandy, no vent or missing pins. If I remove all the RAM modules, it'll have an error code 20.

It was getting too hard to try and track down spare LGA 1155 parts to test so I went ahead and ordered an RMA for the 3570k. Figured I had a 50/50 chance of it solving the issue. Once I get it back at least I'll know for sure whether it was the CPU or the Mobo.

In the meantime, I'm building a temporary computer with a Pentium D....
Lord help me.

I would say it's more like a 75% chance that it is the cpu so the odds are in your favor. Please let us know if it was the cpu giving you the code 55 error.

I guess my luck isn't very good then.
Just got my new CPU in today, set it all up and still have the 55 error. Cleared my CMOS and the problem persisted.

Could I be overlooking the fact that it might just be my RAM I'd fried? I've tried every module in the past, none of them seem to work, is it beyond possibility that all of then could be shot?

00 is CPU and it was for that reason I suggested the CPU RMA.

Send the board back for testing or borrow some ram and test if it is the ram. 🙂

Just tested using some RAM borrowed from a friend. Still same error, guess it's time to send my mobo in.
What is the RMA process like? Is it nearly as painless and quick as Intel's process?

And regarding my Intel RMA, its assumed that my old CPU was not the problem and probably still working when I sent it in, does this change how my RMA is processed? I.e. will they fine me for sending in a working product?

Hello mate.

What may have happened is that when you were fitting your new VGA you possibly bumped against your cooler. Please reseat your cooler from scratch. Pay attention to the fastening pattern, 55 often happens when the pressure on the CPU is not even.

i used to boot up my cpu to enter o.s by leaving the cpu on for 20 to 40sec to 1 min then press reset button..

destroyed my hdd last time..good thing wd rma and replace my hdd i dont want to do this all the time as i suspect it can ruin my sdd aswell

.PS. i use my computer normally which means i checked my cpu through prime! and run it with no errors which means my cpu / ram(memtest)*
