Maximus V gene, BSOD on startup.

Like the title says, im having issues with my new board.
as soon as it goes to load windows (Q-code A0, "ide initialization is started") i get a lightning quick B-SOD then a reset.
Upon reset it will come up with the windows error recovery screen.

Launch startup repair (recommended) -(Q-code AE, " Legacy Boot event") When i select this it says windows cannot be fixed automaticaly, then my only option is to shut down or view a small report.
Start windows normally - When i select this i get the same B-SOD, the cycle repeats.
I can still access the BIOS before the BSOD.

Im thinking its because i took my hard drives from my old i7-860/ ASUS P7P55D build and they are not set up for my new maximus. I would love to hear from you guys and am happy to be part of the ROG community.
I just really want to start overclocking this little beast and get back to my battlefield 3 addiction.

spec's:
i7 3770k
mobo
corsair h70
2x4gb mushkin ridgeback (redline)
Gigabyte GTX 470 (SOC)
120gb Mushkin Callisto deluxe (boot drive) + 1tb Western Digital Black hdd
HP blu-ray drive
Corsair AX-850 psu

Thanks guys.

Hi there,i think you have answered your own question, you say you have taken the HD from your old system, should really start with a fresh OS install to avoid the kind of problems your having now,so a fresh install is the way to go,as all the system drivers on your HD are not compatible with the new system.

Hi,

Theres a little easier way to fix this than reinstalling but it can be fustrating.. I did it before, and it worked just fine. If you go to the BIOS and go to the SATA Tab it should come up with AHCI mode, select that and place it into IDE. Restart your PC and then Windows will boot, then google for Changing AHCI mode for windows,

do the manual option as the Auto Fix doesn't work. Its not hard, and its not dangerous if you read real careful and slow, Reboot PC and place into AHCI mode and boom your Windows should load no problem. But if you prfer and have the time a reinstall would be nice yes, But it isn't 100% needed if you follow the manual steps. Then just download updated drivers for your Motherboard and your PC will work.
PC Specs: Intel 2500k - 4.6GHZ (Overclocked) 7 Stepping CPU.
Corsair Vengance 16GB 4GB Kit @ 1600MHZ 9/9/9/24/2 - now overclocked: 1866 9/10/9/27/2- ATI 6850 GFX - (OC 855mhz/1165) -

Thanks Lilkka, thats the fix i was looking for. there was no way that there was something wrong with this unfamiliar combo, just my lack of knowledge with hard drives.

Lets have a game sometime.

To resolve this issue yourself, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive.

To do this, follow these steps:

Exit all Windows-based programs.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.
