Maximus V Gene boot issue! Need help please!!

Creedo
Level 7
I've run into a peculiar issue with booting my windows 7 drives recently. It seems I can only boot via the boot override feature in BIOS. If I let the system attempt a boot normally it will come to the windows logo screen, monitor loses connection as if it was unplugged from the vid card, and locks up. Only pressing and holding power button will allow a re-boot. Once in a while it will boot normally without having to force boot the drive from BIOS, but it is pretty rare. I do not know what has changed to cause the issue other then a recent windows update. I've tried system restore points, re-install BIOS with Flashback tool, re-install drivers for the mobo, vidcard.... I've run out of options other then a complete wipe which I'd like to avoid if possible.

The other issue is with my video card which incidentally came about the same time as the boot issue. It is a Geforce GTX 550ti. I have removed and re-applied thermal paste and it's temps are very good actually. 30c idle, 68c gaming. Recently during gaming the system just crashes, fans spin up 100%, screen goes black (no blue screen at all), keys completely unresponsive only holding power will allow reboot. My gut tells me either my card is dead or my power supply is dying or something is bad on the motherboard.
