Whoa!!! Sam you have got to update to bios 0604, it’s crazy fast Windows boots faster, every computation, every function is so much faster, this speed is what I was truly expecting from the 3770K, unbelievable man, not a joke, update the bios now, you will be so glad you did, Shamino is a genius!
I used the manual and Bios Flashback, downloaded the 0604 file, renamed it to M5E.CAD, copied to a flashdrive, Windows off keep power to the board ON, flashdrive into the Bios Flashback USB port pushed the button light came on flashing, the gold light between video slots 3 and 4 will flash slowly then rapidly then stop. Leave the flashdrive in place and boot up, you will see the bios updating on the screen. I think I installed the new bios into BOTH Bios Chips 1 and 2, that’s ok can change it later. Then I booted up again, and Hoosanna! Sam the 2nd boot was like lightening, a different PC altogether, and then in Windows you just will not believe the speed. Its another NEW PC in just 2 weeks, try it man, the new bios says "recognizes new CPUs" so maybe the shipping bios was not getting the full performance out of the 3770K, it is now, speed increase I'd say 2fold, 100%, but I'm way too excited right now to calculate the actual...:D
edit: I forgot to set my CPU level up back up to 4.2Ghz, I was running the CPU "new 0604 bios 3.5Ghz" so when I reboot the system should be even faster, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! Thank you Asus!
The performance boost in the 0604 bios is truly phenomenal, all I can compare it to is moving from a HDD to an SSD. The first release bios must not have been pulling all the performance from the 3770k. Coming from an X48 board and a Core 2 Duo, THIS is the responsiveness I was hoping for, now the investment was truly worth it...Anyone with an Extreme board, move away from the initial bios into 0604 as soon as you can, gonna love it. Every 6 days this pc keeps getting faster, I'm dizzy.

Bruce, I have a noob question. Its my 1st build. I found the 0604 bios update, but it wasn't specifically for my M5F MB. Is that ok?

Um No, you have to go to the Maximus V Formula support page and download the latest BIOS for the Formula board. Only my 2nd build so I'm a noob2. 🙂
Latest Bios for the Formula is 0701, try that one M8.
Sam, something ya gonna love, the new Blackwidow in green...
