Hello all,

Just registered, I had to be a part of this - sorry!
I Have been Asus since the AMD K6 boards, ROG since Maximus Formula x38.
At this moment I'm looking to buy the Maximus V Formula to upgrade my rig, going to get this:

- Board Maximus V Formula
- Intel i5 3570K Ivy Bridge
- Samsung Green memory 16GB 30nm 1600 (4x4)
- SSD Plextor 128GB
- Cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE

In my country it is impossible to get these kind of parts, so everything is going to be imported from the USA.
It costs about 30% more but so be it.

My question is about the cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE, it comes in different colors, I would like it to match with the board.
Someone who has this board perhaps can compare, should I get the RED Phanteks or the ORANGE one?
This is the orange one:

and this is the red one:

I think the orange one is a better match, what do you guys think?
Thanks for helping!

Cheers.

For the same price you can take a Corsair H100 and you don't have a choice of color to do ... ^^, however for the formula, the red one is the better choice ... for me ...

For the SSD I don't think you need the Plextor, because it's the best at this time, but the more expensive too, and I don't think you can see the difference than a Intel / CORSAIR / Crucial /Samsung SSD which are at a lower price for similar performance ....
Chassis : NZXT Phantom White/Red Edition
PSU : Cooler Master Silent Pro M - 850 W
CPU : Intel 3750k @ 4.6GHz Vcore 1.250
RAM : 4x4Go Corsair Vengeance 1866 Mhz
Mobo : Asus Maximus V Formula
GPUs : New !!!! Asus GTX 670 DirectCU2 OG
Cooling : EK and XSPC home made liquid cooling for CPU only
Internal SSD : Samsung 830 128Go
Internal HDD : WD Vélociraptor 300 Go ( for games )
Internal HDD : 2 x 2To WD Green Caviar ( Raid 1 )
Monitor : Hyundai Hyundai - W220D TFT 22"

Thanks for your advice Tyrus!

I'll go for the red cooler then.

The reason because I didn't get the H100 is becuase I don't plan to overclock to the limit, aiming for 4.0 - 4.2Ghz.
The H100 is louder with the stock fans, I would have to get other fans (gentle typhoon?) so that adds up to the total cost.
Besides, I don't have a suitable tower to accommodate the H100 and I don't like the idea of water in my rig...If it ever leaks I can't get the spare parts to repair it here, would have to import it.

As for the SSD, it's actually cheaper than the Samsung 830. I choose the Plextor (non-pro) because it has 5 year warranty, and it comes with Toshiba server grade flash. It also has a Marvell controller. I really wanted to avoid all Sandforce based SSD's because of sudden deaths and firmware issues. So the Samsung would be perfect yeah, but it is more expensive.

I'm really disappointed that Newegg is sold out for the second time. Amazon still doesn't seem to have the Maximus.

Cheers.

sangzeel, please wave your hand over the screen with my build photo, and I’ll consider it blessed, thanks dude.:)

The Noctua fans are not attractive, its a trade-off, they perform so well. With the window panel in place, they really don't spoil the view at all.

…Welcome back, Canadian brother.

Yes already did.^^ Using iPad these days.-D Now your board can touch even higher GHz than others with same cooling setup.-P
Noctua fans looks like ice cream cake(butter scotch flavour). Hehe..

P.S : Enjoy your awesome setup bro.-)

@MeanBruceROG - I have the same case and the h100, and I am not sure how to configure the fan set up. Yours is set up to push from inside the case through the radiator to the outside correct? Is that the best way to do it?

The H100 fan configurations are chassis dependent.....
.... The positive pressure intake configuration also keeps the dust level way down, using two 120mm magnetic dust filters.....
....Best advice, just experiment with the 6 configurations and see which one gives you the best results.....

This is best advice .... experiment .... when I say push/pull is better, I also speak with my case, I don't think to specified this, in my previous post ... sorry ... and thanks MeanBruceROG to correct what I said ..
About magnetic dust filters, do you use Demciflex filters ??

Yes, push is better than pull only, but if you have the space in your case, push/pull will be better ...
And you need some fans with "high static pressure" no "high flow" ... and the Noctua are the best, ugly, but the best with low rpm, so low noise ...

NOCTUA, if you hear us, build some fan in ROG's edition ....

So if you'll search some good fans with a nice color scheme ( black / red ) there is the Phobya fans

I ended up ordering the GELID Solutions Silent 12 PWM fans. The static pressure wasn't extremely high, but they seemed to be the best looking combined with having PWM. The noctua fans really need to come in different colors, I'd buy them in a heartbeat lol. And as for push/pull I don't think there will be enough room in the 650D, but if there is I will definitely utilize that. Otherwise, push it is.

Thanks Bruce, I guess the different configurations don't make a huge difference, so I will slowly take my time to see what gives me the best results. I don't know how you can deal with the color of those fans. Props to you!
