Maximus V Formula: Upgrading from 2x4GB to2x8GB

Hello,

I'm upgrading my RAM from 2x4GB to 2x8GB. I currently have a 4.6GHz overclock on my 3770k CPU. My concern is this, can changing out my RAM from 2x4GB to 2x8GB affect m CPU overclock and make it unstable?

Here is the RAM I am currently using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314
Here is the RAM I have on order: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231489

The only difference I see between the two are the timings. So I would be going from 9-9-9-24-2N to 10-10-10-30-2N. Both run on 1.5v at 1600 MHz.

That being said, is there anything I need to look out for or keep in mind when swapping to the new RAM with my 4.6GHz overclock enabled?

My specs are below:

Hello ExGreyFox

All you should need to do is swap them out, clear cmos or reset to defaults and enable XMP or set your ram manually and you should be good to go, it shouldn't affect your overclock.

I'm running my 3770k at 5.0GHz with 16GB 2800MHz RAM.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you think I should be able to to it without resetting cmos and loading defaults? I think clearing CMOS erases my saved overclock profiles. I was planning on swapping out the ram, then powering on, entering BIOS, setting the DRAM timings, voltage and speed manually, and then restarting.

You're welcome

Well if the timings don't change from your first kit, it may not boot that's why I suggest to reset defaults. It shouldn't erase your OC profile if you have it saved in the bios.

The only way your OC profile will get erased is if you update the bios.

Oh ok yeah youre right. So in order, i should load defaults, swap ram, then load my OC profile ?

On that note, if I go into BIOS right away after swapping the RAM without having had loaded defaults, and go in and configure the DRAM settings for the new RAM, do you think I would be able to get away with it that way without resetting to defaults? Im trying to avoid resetting to defaults if at all possible.

All I can say is give it a try, it might go into a boot loop and give you an overclocking failed message, if it does then you can enter the bios and set it up.

If it doesn't, It's not a big deal resetting to defaults if you have to.
