Maximus V Formula not correctly recognizing G.Skill memory

Good day,
First post and just hoping that somebody can help.....
Basically, my ASUS Maximus V Formula 1 will not recognise 8GB G.Skill modules.

Mobo: Asus Maximus V Formula v1 - AMD Bios v1909

Processor: Intel i5 3570K @ 3.4GHz

RAM: G.Skill “Sniper” 2 x 4GB DDR3
F3-14900 CL9D-8GBSR..... DDR3 - 1866 - CL9-10-9-28 1.5v
PC3 - 14900 - 4Gx2 - Intel XMP Ready

.... 2 modules for 16GB

OS: Windows 10 Home x64 22H2

I received this machine in pieces, for a rebuild.
Noticed that SysInfo gave Ram as "8GB 1600MHz" .... same from CPU-Z
Reset CMOS etc - same
F5 for Optimal Settings - same

Booted with one Ram module in slot A2 - recognised as 4GB 1600MHz
Booted with the same module in each slot, then the second module in each slot - all recognized as 4GB 1600MHz
Booted with one module in each of slots A2 and B2 - recognized as 8GB @ 1600MHz

Checked on various sites, mainly here and the G.Skill sites
Tried with 'XMP' on - memory stayed at 8GB, but frequency went to 1866MHz - until I booted....
Continual boots into Windows "Attempting to repair...." then frozen blue screen.
I attempted changing various BIOS settings but did not alter any timing settings.

Ensured all W10 updates installed - ran SFC and DISM etc
Removed CMOS battery for 5 minutes - booted into 'Optimal' (F5) - boot completed ok, but 8GB Ram @ 900MHz

The Asus Maximus QVL shows the F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR (XMP) used for 8GB Ram, however it does not indicate that two modules can be used for 16GB.

Please advise -
a) why my single module is not recognised as 8GB
b) why my single (or dual) module will not run at 1866 MHz
c) what is the best configuration for 16GB Ram - a single 16GB module ?

Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated.
Peter

Hello proeto,

Way late reply here.

A) The ram kit you listed is an 8GB (2x4GB) ram kit. (4GB per module)

F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR - Specification - G.SKILL International Enterprise Co., Ltd. (gskill.com)

B) It should run at 1866MT/s by enabling X.M.P. or setting the ram manually. You may need to increase the VCCSA voltage up to 1.25v for stability.

C) I have the Maximus V Extreme motherboard, a 4x4GB memory kit works well.

This is why you're only seeing 8GB total.
