Maximus V Formula Mother PCIE 16X running at X4

Hi
I buy maximus v Formula and build system at first using ATI6950 Graphics card. It works fine for sometimes then one day nothing. Generally I take it as graphics card down. So I order a GTX 780. After adding that card still no graphics. After installing reinstalling OS+Lots of studying Bios I find that its detected by BIOS but running at X8.

After that by loading optimized setting I can make the system stable but my main X16 running at X4 and 2nd PCIE slot running at X1.

I flash bios and load 1802 which is the latest for this motherboard.

System is running stable and firestrike score is 8195 and Graphic score 9122 and I am playing metro last night at all setting high except physx off. I do bechmark it and get avg 44FPS.

So all things considered I should be happy without full bus support. But I am planning to SLI and I am not getting any peace that system is not running at its full ability.

I even planning to buy a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H but it also seems have some near kind of problem with graphics card. It seems funny but low end MB like G1.Sniper M3 does not have much problem(at least not finding in net)

If there is any solution will be really appreciate(Not sending back system.)

System config:
Core I7 3770k 4.2 Ghz
Maximus V Formula
Transcens 4X4GB aXeRam DDR3 2133
GTX 780
Monitor resolution 2560x1440
Thermaltake tough power 1275W
All things are 3 weeks old and GTX 780 is only 1 week old

Welcome to the ROG forums, roushonul.

How did you find out that your GPU was indeed running at x4? Inside the BIOS? Or from GPU-Z?

Hi
I find it from both bios n gpu-z.
Thanks

Please show me the GPUz screen and could you press the question mark next to the PCIe lane version on GPUz. Does the value change up to 16x

Ok thank you.

If at defaults you are not getting the proper lane configuration could I ask you to set the gen 3 option for PCIe lane. I am sure you have done so. And see if there is any difference.

You can't turn off the power saving features of a graphic card unless you use a modded bios.

The best way to see if your card is performing as it should is via a benchmark.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/827 How do you compare to these? Remember they are run at stock.

Hi
It seems performance is not hampered now. I just finished metro last night in full settings at 2560X1440 resolution at 44 avg fps and just test Shogun-2 in ultra settings. In vsync off it has 127 framerate and with Vsync on its 60 FPS which is what shows in benchmark. Its stock gpu boost clock is 902 Mhz but to my settings it is 966.8 Mhz in reference cooling which i also assume true for all card.

So main thing is no problem there but once i tried to run the card in 2nd slot and its link speed comes X1 and with this bus it didn't even support my monitor resolution. So what may happen if I try to SLI it and why it is not running in X16.

This MB is one of the advance board in Z77. It should work on without any hitch. Know i am ranting but its a pain whenever I check the linkspeed. I still believe its bios prob as I see it X8 time n time again once when I try to first attach the card and 2nd slot was x4.

So why suddenly drop the speed in same board with same card.

Thanks guys for answering.
