Maximus V Formula mini PCIe networking problems

NLight95
Level 7
Is anyone else having trouble with the Broadcomm miniPCIe wi-fi/bt adapter? I can't get into a "connected" status (see below). The drivers have all been installed and each adapter shows up fine in Device Manager. Each one has a red X in the lower left corner of the icon and a "not connected" status. I'm not terribly good with networking and I've searched around for an answer but the methods I've tried (like totally removing all Asus network software and & drivers then reinstalling it) haven't worked. Looking at other threads on the ROG boards there are problems with the Broadcom adapter.

Any clues?

if the probelm still can't solved, maybe you can try other device (mobile phone, pad, or other wifi device...)to connected
Or, you can try used Manual diagnostic tools, and check haven't any probelm?

Before you do as Sukara above me suggested. The reason you cannot have your wireless and LAN connections running at the same time, is due to the fact that there will be a setting (most likely) in your WIFI configuration that is set automatically to "disconnect on wired connection". You'll need to get into your Wireless Adapter's configuration to change it. As for the Bluetooth, sorry, don't know anything about using it with pc's really

My objective is to set up a DLNA server for my LG blu-ray player and eBook reader. This may be a stupid question, but do I also need an external router in addition to the wi-fi on the M5F? I shouldn't think so but I'm rather an amateur when it comes to networking.

I updated to the latest 0701 BIOS and disabled the Bluetooth adapter in the BIOS. I also disabled the Intel LAN and unplugged the ethernet cable. "Disabled Upon Wired Connect" setting is set to Disabled in the driver in Dev Mgr.

Below are the only options I see for both of Wireless adapter icons in Network Connections. I can only enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on one at a time. I even disabled the LAN connection in the BIOS with the same results. But I don't think ICS has anything to do with the problem at hand. IPConfig shows "media disconnected" for both adapters.

I tried this solution but it also didn't work.

When I select the option to diagnose the problem I get the following. Trying to diagnose only brings me to a help screen.

Finally, this is what Wi-Fi Inspector shows.

responded on XS. I am assuiming you connected the antennas and placed them in a location they are likely to get a signal?

Yes, both antenna cables are securely attached to the PCB and the antennas are on the top of my desk where I previously had a D-Link DIR-601 router which worked fine (though it was single channel so peak speed wasn't all that great). I even disconnected my 5GHz cordless phone that's nearby. There are no conflicts within Device Manager. I seated and reseated the card and attached the screw to keep it in place. Wi-Fi is enabled in the BIOS but the SATA configuration shows the "mPCIe Combo Card" as disabled even though it's installed. There's no option to "enable" the device as it's only a status indicator.

Perhaps one of you guys can set up a Max5Form and install the card to see what results you get, along with a LAN connection.

Thanks for the info, Shamino. Perhaps the BIOS (or at least the User Manual) could be updated to give a description for what this entry means and what its status indicates.

Have you found out any more information as to the connection problem I'm experiencing with my mini PCIe?

I ran the Asus PC Diagnostics on my network and the wi-fi adapter passed the test using address www.google.com and port 80.

i am having the exact same problem. tech support wants me to RMA the board but the mpcie combo card seems to be working. drivers are updated and no issues in hardware profile. the problem is i have to place the router right next to the case to get a signal. the supplied antennas dont seem to make a difference. at the same time my laptop picks up networks from all around.

is this normal or did i get bad antennas/rf cable??

I have one of the boards, I will pull it out and see if I am able to duplicate. Should have an answer by Monday morning GMT.
