Maximus V Formula Boot Problem

resistanceee
Level 7
I have recently built a new PC and encountered a problem.

When I press the power button, everything lights up and seemingly starts but after a short while(before anything pops up on monitor) it all stops and turns off. I then have to wait for a little while before it ACTUALLY boots up or sometimes it doesn't boot up and I have to try pressing the power button again...
Has anyone else encountered this? And is there a way to fix it?

My build contains:
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty Series 1000W Modular
Case: CoolerMaster CM Storm Trooper w/ Window
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus V Formula
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i
GPU: ASUS Radeon HD7970 DirectCU II TOP 3GB (HD7970-DC2T-3GD5)
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 (CMD8GX3M2A1886C9)
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM001)
Optical Drive: LG 12X BD-R Blu-Ray DVD Combo Drive (CH12LS28)

Thanks for any help 🙂

You ever get an error code at bootup? Have you tried clearing CMOS? Updating bios?

I did get an error codeat one point and looked it up in the manual, it said memory not installed or something rather, I reinstalled the memory and it doesn't display the error anymore. I have not cleared CMOS or updated bios yet. I am still in the process of installing driver software, what do you recommend for me to do first?

Do a test for me. Disconnect all your cables from the motherboard except for the power cables. Power on the system using the Start button. See if the same behaviour occurs.

No CPU cooler fan as well?

So I tried with CPU and chassis fans still plugged in and it didn't shut down 🙂 I tried plugging stuff back in one at a time and it is now showing error code A0 (IDE initialization has started), is the problem with one of my drives? It isn't shutting down anymore though 😕 what now?

A0 is fine. Not all codes are error codes. See your user manual.

Yeah I figured after checking online what it meant...seems like its just the power switch that causes the problem 😕 cause the start button on the mobo works fine.

Locate the 2 pin Power Switch cable and connect only this cable to the system panel connector. Make sure it is connected in the right direction. Power on your system with the power button from the CM Trooper. See if the problem persists.

Yes the problem still occurs, I think it might be a mobo issue now cause even when I short the two pins, the same thing occurs...
