maximus v extreme, use 2a pcie slot for single vga use with pcie 3.0 x16

hi there, i got a problem, i can't use my first pcie slot (cpu cooler to big) , now i want to use slot 2a (the second) for single vga with pcie 3 x16, but at the moment it only works with pcie2 x8,...
is there a way? i know this slot can give out pcie 3.0 x16 with sli, but is it possible with a single card?

Hello Keendary and welcome.

Try the black slot 2B. Have you thought about upgrading your cpu cooler?

If you are running sli and you use slot A1 and 2B your gpu's will be running at pcie 3.0 x8 x8. If you are using any other pcie slots you will be running off the PLX chip which introduces a slight latency.

If you'll search on google,the 16x pciex is a wet dream...the difference between 16x and 8x is almost none.
don't bother fix this ... I have the same issue and the benchmarks in games gave me almost identical frame rate .
